I have a 360 modena. I am thinking of moving the car and need to decide whether to sell it here and buy a new one in China, or to just ship my car over there.

Can someone help me estimate how much it would cost to ship a car over? I'm unsure of the import taxes and registration costs as well.

If I were to buy a used 360 in China, would it be cheaper?

    Thanks,
    Erik

cars there cost quite a bit more. but thats your best bet, importing/registering is alot of trouble.
i am moving there and i am not taking my car. just buy one there, easier.

I don't think you could get an old car like a 360 into China at any price. Shipping would be the least of your expenses. Do some searches and you can find the import tax on a new car but in round numbers it is 100%. Only good news is that you will not need to pay a premium over MSRP as you do in the US. I don't think you could find a used 360 in China. There were almost zero Ferraris in China in 1999-2001

Now that I think about it. You're right. I only remember seeing 430's. But I think that I can barely afford importing the 360. You're saying that the f430 might cost over $400k to own in China? Man. That's way out of my price range.

How much are you looking to spend? Where do you plan to buy? Is there a website you are using like a chinese version of autotrader or ebay or something? What is it.
    Thanks,
    Erik

I have an Audi at my house in China and it is perfect. Strong and easily serviced at a wide network of Audi dealerships. If you are going to see any of the country service is important.

There is no used Ferrari market so I don't think there is online trade source for it.
I plan to get a F430 spider from the shanghai dealer, no mark-up no game it's straight forward compared to the ferrari experience in the states.

Thanks. This is one of my favourite photos from about 5 years ago - outran my friends and ran right into a PLA convoy which blocked the road and forced me to take a rather lengthy tea break. I put about 20,000kms on my 550 in China. Roads were not so good then and the car needed a lot of modification. Now so easy - 599 is perfection from the factory

Am traveling now so not too many pictures in my laptop. Being escorted by police into Shanghai with an Enzo and a 550 badly needing to cool down after a little run at 1kph over the legal speed limit

No doubt there are a few 360's but very few. I once knew the numbers from Ferrari around that time and they were shockingly low. I can't remember the year, maybe 2002, but 1 friend of mine in Guangzhou bought 40% of all the new Ferraris that were sold in China during that year

kickass pics dm18. enzo in shanghai, was that the drive-2-shanghai for the 1st F1 race?
3604u, there are a few 360's in shanghai, because 360 was in production when the dealer opened. there is not really a a used ferrari market, yet. there are quite a few F430 and 599 around.

There are probably between 20 and 40 360's in and around Shanghai, I have been on the F1 track with many of them, but some have come from Xiamen and Beijing where there are a few.

I bet the dealer could help you to find a secondhand car if they wanted too. There used to be a few other showrooms selling top cars. look you will find, if you search through my previous posts you will find a few posts in importing F cars into China. It was not easy but I did it a few years ago.

You could go to the workshops and see how many are in for service or more likely repair. Ask the manager out there or the foreman, (he used to Irish} but it's 18 months since I was last in Shanghai so my information is dated. But I know where my car is and is now inneed of a bit of work, all good fun for when I return to my Chinese empire.

I also want to import a 360 into China from USA, particularly into Shenzhen. I read Michael Collins' description from 2005:

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=66163&highlight=china

He paid no tax since his car is a 308, but a 360 will certainly be taxed. I think Ferrari's are not in Kelly Blue Book. How is the value determined? Is there a company that can help with the procedures?

A new 430 is nearly $500,000 in China, and there is no used car market. World Trade Organization membership was supposed to eliminate import tax, but it has not happened.

You definitely are able to find a used F360 or F430 in Shanghai. Actually there is a F360 spyder and F430 coupe in the market at the moment.

That's great! I called Ferrari Shanghai but the salesman said there is no used car. Do you know where those cars are for sale? How much are they? I prefer a red 360 F1 coupe.

Ferrari Shanghai doesn't doing business on secondhand car. But there are several company doing used car business in Shanghai and they focus on the luxury and sports cars only. The brand new F430 in Shanghai is nearly RMB3,200,000( USD$457k )include import tax, consumer tax, purchase tax etc.

Currently, there is used 2006 red F430 with 6000KM asking for RMB2,500,000 ( USD$360K ) in the market. and 2004 red F360 F1 Spyder with 8000KM asking for $271K. I know the price is more expensive than the states because of very high tax in China.

a friend of mine bought a 360 spider in FuZhou for 1.8 mil Chinese 18 month ago.

I'd say better to find a good used car in china.

My cousin was mentioning something about if you were moving over there (he lives in Shanghai,) that you're allowed to bring (I forgot what he said but I know it was at least one,) in without tax or something? But I don't know if it applies to Ferraris and what the rules are.

Mike, can you provide the names and phone numbers of those used car dealers? I have no idea how to find them since I am in Shenzhen.

A used 360 is the only possibility for me since even a used 430 is out of my price range, particularly when the exchange rate is now only 6.8 RMB to 1 USD.
