Big straights. Mercedes power obviously the clear winner here with cars cresting 202mph here. Merc's super f-duct should rule the roost. The back straight is about 15-16 seconds. Pole time last year was 93.7 seconds; that's just about 1/6 of the lap. Merc f-duct is worth a good half second on the back straight alone. I'm predicting a pole time no quicker than 1:34.500.

Not a terribly aero intensive track, but there are some interesting turns. 1/2/3/4 is a bit of a dizzying affair taken at about 100mph+ but with lots of mechanical grip specifically at 3/4 and I'm guessing there will be a couple different lines taken through this area.

I heard this morning that Ferrari are bringing 5 mainly internal updates to F2012 this weekend. They are still saying they are about a full second off pace.

Lotus are brining a couple bits and bobs which they claim will bring them a couple tenths. A couple tenths is a good jump so I'll believe it when I see it.

Red Bull and Lotus have a couple new arguments they are bringing to the table this weekend regarding the W03 super-duct. Red Bull have sunk pretty low with this one IMO considering what they've pulled the past couple years.

Sauber in the meantime have suggested it is back to business as usual for them fighting midfield. I'll be interested in seeing what this team does through the rest of the season though.

Mercedes believe they have a handle on their tire situation finally stating they overheated them in Australia and underheated them in Malaysia (they previously said the opposite). At least this proves the car has the capacity to heat and cool them and they understand how to do it as opposed to F150 which just could not heat the tires almost not matter what they did, at least until major changes were made anyway.

    Changeable conditions predicted:
    Friday rain 60% chance
    Saturday cloudy 30% rain chance
    Sunday 40% rain chance

Temps are cool as well. 18C for the high.

If dry its Mclaren and someone else. If wet it could be Ferrari and Sauber again. Mclaren is the fave overall.

I think the Mercs well show well, but I do not think they will beat *both* McLarens. Right now, they are too fast and I'm not totally sold on the Mercs straightline speed being all conquering. So, my prediction is Hamilton, MCS, Button, Nico, Alonso, Perez, Massa.

First lap, Hamilton off pole loses it to Button into the first corner and Michael in third gets hit by Kimi and spins down the grid, last lap Massa overtakes Alonso for the win :D

This track is just made for their super-DRS system so I would not be surprised seeing at least one Merc on the front row. If Merc have their tire issues sorted they will really rake in some points this weekend as this track is right up their alley, lots of top speed, mechanical traction, and a couple medium speed turns. Mclaren will do remarkably well in sector 2.

I gave up on watching live until the European season starts. I guess I'm just not as hardcore about watching every session live as I use to be. I wish I still had the time to get up/stay up for the fly away races, but I just don't have the time to nap during the day like I use to.

Back in "the day" I recorded everything, practice aswell as qualifying and the race, naturally, but now I only record the races pausing for the commercials. I do not bother with practice but still try to catch qualifying.

bold predictions on schumacher. i'd love to say i'm that optimistic but i'm not. mclaren seem to dominate both qualifying and to a lesser degree the race. Red bull is also fairly strong in races. I can't wait for the race I can't stand 2, let along 3 week breaks in f1.

Oh you bunch of whingers!! This is the only time of year in Aus that the races are at a decent time. Most of the year they're on anywhere between 10pm and 3am!! You don't hear us complaining.

I use to record all races too. I had a pretty large stack of tapes and DVDs until Jen and I moved in together. For a while I didn't have a DVD recorder that worked (it broke in the move and had no cash to buy another) so I got out of the habit of recording.

You don't have to listen to Speed's commentators. That's worse than the ungodly times.
