would you rather have two 60k valued ferraris/or other exotic in that range, or just one in the range of 120k. i.e..... 2 or 1 same outlay of $.

and what would it / they be ?

A and TR and 456 combo in the garage offers more than say, having one 360.

just my .2 after 46% in taxes.

I'd pay $100k for a nice 355 Spider and keep the rest for gas and maintenance.

I dunno...if I could swing a Countach and a 308 QV for 120k out the door, I'd be more than a little tempted.

Then again, a concours condition 246 or a 330/250 GTE driver would be a helluva sight in my garage as well!

I guess it would all depend on my mood on the day of purchase, and the particulars of the cars involved. More than likely, though, I'd go for the best $120k car I could find - whatever the model.

I would imagine that if I were driving my 308 and passed a Dino/330/250GTE, I'd feel some regret. I don't think the same could be said in the reverse situation.

The only issue that I would have with the premise is that having two $60k cars cost the same as one $120k car. Insurance and maintenance costs on two $60k Ferraris ('95 355B and a '95 456 for example) would be more than a single $120k car ('00 550M). So maybe it is actually a choice of buying a $120k car or two $50-55k cars. At this point, the $50-60k range seems to be where you see a gap between "newer" and "older" cars. A budget of $50k per car means the two I mentioned above would probably not be available. More like a 348, 328, or Mondial T.

I think it is a great question, probably many owners of lower-priced cars have had this same debate in their head when they decided to make a big upgrade. "Do I keep the one I have and add another of about the same value, OR, take the same money and use my old car to really step up?"

It is also a tough question. It would be difficult to turn down a lone TDF Blue 550, but if the choices were any two of the following it would be tempting:
    348ts & '02 Maserati Coupe
    328GTB & Porsche 996C4
    '03 SL500 & XKR Silverstone Coupe
    DB7 Coupe & '85 TR

dont think too hard about the extra expenses like insurance , just a round about idea , 2 or 1 for a bout the same $ . something ive pondered ... i think many of us have thought, and done it

my "second" car would be one that was less needy in keeping it running. ..

i forgot ,actually i thought about it. 2 cars- my 348 and -
pantera - lotus- noble-would actually be my narrowed down second car choices..

I opted for a TR and a F355 Spider - In the process of selling my Mercedes SL and thought of adding another F-car.

But came to the realization that if I add another F-car I could be spending possibly 1K+/month on maintenance, registration, and insurance for a combined mileage of less than 12K/year for all three weekend cars.

So I'll just wait to see how much people are actually spending to maintain the "affordable - low maintenance" Lamboghini Gallardo's.

With two cars you might have one that runs! Keep in mind you have to still do the belt service every five years regardless of how much you use it. LOL

Two Ferrari's means two registrations, two insurances, two garage spaces, two maintenance fees, and of course you can only drive one at a time!!!

If it were me, I'd buy the best 360 Modena I could find at that price, and enjoy one of the best-performing, most satisfying, and most trouble-free Ferraris ever made. Two 60k Ferraris would be nowhere near as good in the vehicle performance and enjoyment area, and probably 5 times the headache in maintenance, insurance, and storage issues.

I think maybe two 75k cars vs. 1 150k car would be more interesting.

Now, if this were the case, I would opt for a 95' 355B and possibly a TR.

Or, for 150k you could possibly squeeze out a higher mileage 355B and have enough leftover for a used 360CH!

I almost made the choice of a 120K and 60K car, but in the end went with one car.

I would buy the best 250 GTE or 330 superamerica that $90K can buy, then use it to drive all over the country in search of the perfect $30K 308 GTSI :)
