Hi Guys, This is probably a dumb question, but I was unable to find anything using search. I just picked up my 1981 308 GTSi yesterday and have an orange light lit up on the dashboard. It has a funny symbol next to it, and looking in the manual, I think it is the choke warning light. I have a UK car, and the light is on the bottom left hand corner of the rev counter. The manual shows the dash of a Euro/US car, so I think on those models the light would be in the bottom right hand corner of the rev counter. Going through the manual, I can not see a choke lever, to turn off the choke. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Firstly, there is never a silly question Rrari and congrats on your purchase. I think you might have the wrong manual?? If its injected (GTSi) there is no choke. I'm sure the GTSi guys will be able to help. The choke lever is in the centre console around the heating controls for carbi cars like mine.
A friend tells me that he thinks that warning light on the GTSi is just telling me that the heater fan is running. I do have a GTSi manual, but it seems they did not update the manual for this warning light. From my search it seems that on US cars it may indicate the rear window defogger is on. As long as it is not indicating some major engine problem I am happy. There is a small symbol next to the light, but it is not at all clear what the symbol symbolises.
A photo tells a thousand words, always where possible post a pic, it helps everyone here help you. Anyway I hope you have many years of fun driving it.
On my '83, the top left lamp is orange & it's the blower. On the top right lamp, is yellow, and it's the warm-up lamp. The warm-up goes off after about 5 min or 1 mile - whichever comes first
You've got the wrong OM (manual) -- the correct manual for a GB/euro 308i-2V would be 195/80, and the warning light that is shown for the "choke" in carbed 308 OMs and for "low engine temperature" in US 308i-2V OMs is listed as a "spare" (i.e., not used).
I went home and played around with the switches, it turned out th be the rear window defroster. Thanks for the help guys. I thought I had checked all the switches, but the defrost switch was hidden behind my elbow when I was seated in the car.
