Hi: The choke lever under he steering wheel is closed when it is pushed all the way forward no? Have you guy ever experienced slight bogging from overuse of autoflux?
Choke is closed when forward. When I first had my car I used to use the choke for keeping the revs up when the car was cold, warming up. Now, the car is much happier and she warms up in only a minute or two and I don't really use the choke I have never experienced the autoflux having any influence on the running of the engine in a negative way. Car always runs exactly the same with or without the Autoflux. The only difference is that the Autoflux prevents vapour lock. Hope this helps. Onno
I never use the choke, with multi Webers, all you have to do is pump the loud pedal 3-4 times and crank it. Also... never had the autoflux issue, do you still have the stock pump? If you have a replacement pump and the pressure is higher than 3-4 PSI, it could cause a over-rich condition. Regards, Bill
choke was removed from my car when I bought it; never needed it in starting conditions ranging from low 30s to mid 90s f. The only thing I worried about in cold starting conditions was the 11 quarts of oil in near-molasses condition blowing out the primary oil filter!
I have a 365 GTC which doesn't have a mechanical pump and the electric fuel pumps run continually with any surplus fuel being routed back to the tanks. I have driven my car in all conditions including reasonably heavy frost and snow and have never used the choke. During some recent work I decided to do away with it altogether although I haven't removed the lever under the dash, or the choke flaps on the carbs. I just took the cable out and then fixed all the choke controls together with a stiff wire. You can't see any difference and it would be easily reversible if necessary.
I believe that the chokes on the 250/275/330/365 cars were an early form of anti-theft device. I you want to be sure the car will not start, pull the choke cable! Seriously, all the previous posts are correct, just pump the throttle 4-8 times and it should always start easily. I cannot remember how many times I have had people bring me cars that "were not running right" only to find that they had accidently pullled the choke cable and not realized it. I just closed the chokes and usually disabled the cable and no more problems.
I never use it either just wanted to be sure I had not knocked it open with my knee. I think I overuse auto flux . Car has been running much better wih it off.
Yup, you are right about an anti-theft device. If you use the choke on a 365 gtc/4 and THEN pump the throttle a few times - BLAM- fire, smoke, and an engine cover in the next county! THAT deters theft!
