Who on FC has a chopper? I have been thinking of selling my 1992 Harley FatBoy and buying a chopper . There are several companies out there that make both kits and turn-key bikes. I am interested to find out what modern chopper owners think of their bikes?

I guess I'm the first then. On Saturday I sold my 1992 Harley FatBoy and bought a 2005 American Ironhorse Lone Star Chopper(LSC). It has 111 cubic inches and 105hp and is a BLAST to ride! I'll post a photo once I take the time to take some. I even road it in the rain on Saturday. Mine looks like this one on the American Ironhorse website except it has a custom two into two exhaust finished in black cermanic coat rather than the stock two into one chrome exhaust. It sounds GREAT! Mine is black with green fire stripes. http://www.americanironhorse.com/flashweb/LSC.html

Congrats! I hope you love it. Yesterday I rode my old 86 softail about 125 miles with a custom chopper with a 124 in S&S engine and it a real fast. My bike is a 93 in stroker. It runs great too.

Thanks. Ilove it already. I have been riding for over 38 years, mostly dirtbikes until I bought my Fatboy in late 1991. This is my first chopper and I don't know why I didn't get one sooner?

American ironhorse seems to do really well, ESPECIALLY in Texas (Dallas area). I feel people usually build/buy choppers to set themselves apart. Hell, in Dallas it just seems like you'd be one of the crowd. Lots of American irhorse and Big Dogs in this area. I think every Harley dealer also sells AIH! I'm noit ripping on your bike.....if I had the $$$ I'd be on that instead of my 04 fat boy in a second! Anyway, AIH sure does sell a lot of bikes. Says alot considering they are pretty pricey, but they have created a demand above other customs!

Parkerfe, post some pics of the nice chopper, I'd love to see it!

It handles better than my old Fatboy, although it is not still designed to carve up canyon roads. It is a cruiser and is great for that...and with 105hp it is very fast! It is a very high quality piece with billet and chrome everywhere.

Take alook at a Triumph Rocket III. Bags for torque and power quicker to 100 than most litre sports bikes and now Jardine offer sports exhaust that give a extra 30bhp over stock. I have heard that some guy in America has also fitted a supercharger !!!! Going out on our Demo one tommorrow for a cruise to out FOC meeting as the car is still of the road

say it isnt so. Congrats on a chopper, but knowing the ex-ceo and current way the operations at the Ironhorse facility are run currently, I wouldnt give one of those bikes away. They have some serious issues they need to address right now, and the current CEO isn't 'right-siding' the company as he should be. You should see the warranty issues that come in daily on bikes they just sold, ive seen a truckload a day come in........I know a few people that still work there. The old CEO almost bankrupt the company due to his gambling troubles and bad money management, and now it doesnt appear its getting any better.

Did they mention the worker that was killed there recently due to negligence? Just wondering if that was mentioned. And the mandatory overtime they are requiring the assembly workers to work is sending their workmanship into the crapper.

Before I bought mine I checked with several owners who were well pleased with their AIH choppers. And I am well pleased with the build quality of mine . I rode choppers made by several different companies, both new and used and liked the AIH ones best; and some cost over 2 times what my LSC cost. It has a two year warranty with an authorized AIH dealer just a few miles from my house.

What litre sport bike can the Rocket III beat to 100??? While it has a lot of tq and hp (for a cruiser) its weighs 704lbs dry!!! from what I read they say it does 0-100 in 7.2 seconds, but by comparrison a modern litre sportbike does it in the mid 5 second range!

These are single purpose devices, and as much, if not more about radical stylization as about the ride; that said, i've seen many i like, but few i'd buy. I thought about having one built- a sort of modern day Brough, done with different types of metal, no paint, but when i priced out what i was thinking about- 60k dollars was conservative- i found other ways to spend that money. A noted chopper builder near me, Dave Finn, builds beautiful customs and does virtually everything- I know he is now having frames made to his spec by one of the big suppliers and has introduced a 'production custom.' (Oxymoron, agreed). He has also used the V-Rod motor in a couple of customs- that motor is glorious, the rest of the bike is open to question.
The more i learn about bikes, the more i realize that you've got to have alot of them for various purposes. It's also interesting that, the more i ride, the more i like sportsbikes.

Choppers are like Ferraris in that they are only good for FUN...not very practical, but that's what my BMW M5 and my wifes Infiniti Q56 is for. The Boxer and chopper are for fun only.
