Friday: Practice day came and went. After the first session, struggling with tire setups in the banking we decided to bleed the brakes and found out that the rear calipers were frozen. Effectively since before the NASA race in September, I did not have rear brakes, including Sebring two weeks ago. That being the good news, when we installed the front rotors for the NASA race the brake pads were installed upside down, so I was actually braking on the left side brakes on the metal pad instead of the brake pad. I guess for that I did pretty good. Mark McKensey and Charlie Scardina Jn beat me time wise by 4 seconds but then....they have brakes. The banking is very scary. I can still not get myself to hauling into the banking full throttle. I guess I need to get me bigger balls. So...a very nice day with a nice after party here at the track. The sunday race will be run with a brake setup of 100 to 0 in brake bias. Stay tuned for tomorrows qualifying results My prediction: 3rd in class
Brakes? Anyone can make a slow car. The engine makes it go fast! But as my old driving instructor said "You can only go as fast as you can stop!" Good Luck.
Good to meet a bunch of you guys in person this past weekend. I'm still sore from the Enduros on Saturday! David
David: not just that you are an excellent racer/driver, you also know how to fine tune a car giving that Mark had several seconds on me and I do not believe I suck that much
David: Even if we hadn't know you from here, we would have found you. We weren't about to let the Easy-Wider 911 escape our attention. Scottie www.TheCarcierge.com A secure, climate controlled, car storage facility
Thanks guys, but it wasn't just me setting up the car, Mark is a fantastic driver that raced GP bikes years ago. He really pushed the car like he stole it. We certainly had a lot of fun and enjoyed meeting all. And finally..... it was good to see some other Ferrari racers at the track with us. We had Dana running her 355 in HSR for 2 years with us and never had any other Ferraris to play with us. I hope you guys decide to run more CHRA events, if not all, next year. Tim secured the deal with Pirelli for the series, so it's up to all of us to spread the word and build the field. And what about chassis SN#001 333SP running there????WOW! I love that car. I ran a WSC car against them in the day, but was always jealous that I was not involved with one. They are sooooo cool. The "Easy Wider" (that's the original sponsor in 1974) was not easy driving though.....with no power steering in the banking and a big push in turn 3 and the hairpin leading onto the back straight it was a real handful. It was a trade off on setup for other turns, but man, I could smell the rubber from the front tires in those turns pushing off. My neck and shoulders are toast. The banking is much harder to hold flat here than any of the other ROVALs I've been too...."all of them". I really had to hit my apex between NASCAR 3 & 4 everytime to keep it flat on the mat at 155mph and use the whole track exiting onto the front straight. d
