Never forget that distinct voice from the back of the mouth that he had. I really liked him when I was growing up, but I was young when you older guys said he was not always the smoothest of charachters... RIP Chris. MB
Didn't hear about this until today. Economaki was a voice I grew up with, broadcasts from Indy on the radio, Wide World of Sports, and so many races he covered over the years. Never made the connection that he also was of Greek descent until my dad told me years later. For an American who followed motorsports from childhood like I did, there is no question that he helped shape my understanding and love of the sport. May his memory be eternal.
Always knew that special voice. A legend. Pic from US Grand Prix in Dallas 1984. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Chris was asked about his favourite race, a tough question as he covered many of them. He said it was 'The Race of Two Worlds' at Monza Italy. That was where the American Indy car drivers beat all the fast european racers and won big money. The trophy from that race still resides in the Indy car museum. RIP
Indeed the origin of one of the coolest Ferraris, the 412MI!!! Basically a hot rod 335S, with a huge salvaged engine jammed in it...LOL! RIP Chris....
