Totally ridiculous but then again we must keep in mind Dustman is a serial 488 hater....and for all the wrong reasons. Taking everyone's personal experience (on the subject of lag) out of the equation - mine included - CH has clearly called out 600LT as having very noticeable lag (refer to the vid) and, he is clearly a big fan of the car. However, on the flip side, out of all the reviews CH has done on 488 not once has he EVER mentioned lag as being present in any way shape or form, in fact to the contrary where has commended the Ferrari 488 for having an engine with zero lag. So if dustman or anyone else says 488 has lag god only knows what on earth they are doing to manifest it because I sure can't, yet in 600 can manifest it very easily without even having to go looking for it.
The 488 definitely has less lag than the 570s/600lt. However, when the turbos light in the Mac the 488 will be in your rear view quick. I've had both. Meanwhile comparing a 570s/600lt to a Pista speaks volumes, the logical competitor is the 720s and its coming LT variant. We all know whats going to happen there. Chris Harris was a big 458 Speciale fan. See his 2014 Car Of the Year Video. So to suggest like some here that he's some type of a shill for Mcalren is bonkers. He clearly likes the Mac's more at this stage and frankly he's right. Ferrari is behind. Be a fan boy all you like, I grew up with the dream of owning Ferraris, ive had a 458 and a 488 and both cars had several issues and Ferrari treated me like I was trash. Ill try Ferrari again some day, but ill never get over they way Ferrari treated me when a brand new car with 1000 miles on it catches on fire sitting still in a garage. Ill never forget going for brakes at 140mph and nothing being there. Ill never forget how in 9-10 months of ownership it was at the dealer for 3 months of those.
Being a nosey rosey may I ask what the issue was? Was it the wheelhouse lining that was glued in? In which they recalled and attached with fasteners. I presume it was the 458.
600 for sure is faster than 488. 570- probably quicker as well. My 488 against my 720 it wasn’t close- 720 walked away with ease. Having said that- there is no lag in 488. Zero. None.
Yeah- dustman and I must have been driving two different versions of the 488. I had the no lag- drives completely linear version and he had the laggy engine that was accidentally produced between September 14, 2016 and September 15, 2016.
2017 488, caught fire at 3-4am in my garage while we were sleeping, all be it very small fire still. Brakes failed completely once, meaning push peddle no stopping power, to the floor feel. 140mph. IMO the 488 has a ABS computer issue speaking with now dozens of people who have PM'ed me about their similar experience. Brakes completely replaced prior to that due to rotational noise that sounded like a 82 blazer on original brakes. I believe warped rotors, Ferrari said that wasn't possible. Replaced only pads after taking apart the full brake system 5 times (all corners). Putting over 300 miles on the car. Having the car over a month. The Front left brake was creating so much heat the TPMS was reading 150 degress on the tire temp on short drives IN TOWN. Car was a turd. My 2011 458 was a little less drama but still had various smaller issues.
Re: Chris Harris -- It sounded as if he chose the Scud over the Mac and Pista. (for a driver in his garage)
No the 720 has no lag but you wont like it. Since you are such a big fan of sound, if you ever drive a 720 my suggestion is to have a big burrito first. The sound will be more to your liking that way. _
I dont know what to tell you. To me there is zero lag on the 488 and there is zero lag on the 720. But since you seem to think the 488 is laggy, you will think the 720 is laggy.
Then a 720 is laggy, sadly. But I’ll drive one myself and see how bad it is relative to 488. Believe CH noted the Pista is improved on the base 488?
no. its not laggy. Its your perception that cant and wont be changed. Just like every post out of you is complaining about the sound of a car and it doesnt seem that you can be convinced otherwise, you certainly wont be convinced that a 720 hp car is not laggy. Cheers.
If you enjoy your purchases then this should make you pleased regardless of counter opinions. But I’m going to express it regardless, esp the poor sounds of some of these cars! I was pleasantly surprised the 600lt sounded better than expected. Granted we were in a garage but still nice. I haven’t taken it out yet.
Except in build quality. So many loose parts... bubbling paint... I mean I don't know how the heck anyone buys one.
On an absolute basis, there is a slight amount of turbo lag in both the 720S and 488 between 2500-3500 rpm but coming from someone who is ultra sensitive to this issue, it is fairly unobtrusive.
Must be talking about 488. You own a 720 with these issues, or is this a "I heard from a friend of a friend"? My 720 = no loose parts, bubbling paint or whatever else you want to make up.
