The indicator stalks are silver annodized not chrome. They should have a dull silver finish. Taking them apart is a huge job and they cannot be fully dis-assembled without destroying the plastic bits. If you are looking to restore yours you really have one of 2 options:

    1. Take everything apart, destroy the plastic, get it re-annodized, then send the assembly to Verrell @ Unobtanium Supplies to re-cast all of the plastic parts. One way or another your will spend $1K + doing this.

    2. Remove the stalk assembly, carefully clean and prep the arms and paint them with a very thin coat of aluminum paint.

While 1 is the 100% perfect way 2 offers a solution that is really close in finish at a fraction of the price. With your effort it should be done for less than $10 in materials.

thanks, i will try option 2! How about my next problem, changing a black anodised correct type momo steering wheel to silver. Thinking about using acetone to remove the black anodising or soda blast then laquer?

Stripping annodizing is best done with spray on oven cleaner. It will chemically strip the annodizing without damaging the aluminum. The problem is that over a large surface like the steering wheel paint or lacquer will just look fake. The indicator stalks are too tiny to notice on but on the wheel that is right in front of your face it will be too much. I suggest buying another wheel. Superformance has some nice reproductions for not a lot of money.

Original is annodized. Bear in mind that annodizing makes the wheel more scratch resistant too. Once you strip the wheel it becomes very easy to mark so the wheel really needs annodizing to keep it looking good.

It's a new wheel shame it can't be changed for silver, will the anodising effect the leather?

Sorry but your project is not one that will yield a nice result regardless of the work or care you put into it. Get another wheel and sell the one you have. You'll be way ahead in the end.
