Sorry about that. Hope you have it sorted out soon. I've made the repro Neiman keys so people can keep the original ignition key safe at home... Yeah they snap.
I have developed a chronic distrust of valets. We stay at a hotel in Monterey during Car Week that only has valet parking. My '87 BMW has a inoperative driver's door lock solenoid for the central locking system. No problem; I can use the trunk lock. Told the valet. Valet parks car and reports that the door look works fine if you twist the key hard enough. Not. Car was not locked and key was badly bent. Next year, I took the Ferrari. No way I'm letting the valet have the keys. I tell the valet to jump in the passenger's seat and I'll park the car. He is excited: its his first time ever in a Ferrari. Gulp. Valets are not jaded been-there done-that drove-everything car parkers even in Monterey / Carmel. Sorry to hear that. Hydraulic systems are far superior to mechanical ones, so one would naturally expect then that your parking brake would work much better since you added hydraulic brake components.
Ha! My favorite line from your fabulous description of ineptitude. Really sorry to hear about the mess. It seems that they just dug deeper and deeper into disaster.
I couldn't stand it, pulled the back of ignition off and hot wired it, fired right up. No burned fuel pump or digiplex or coil. Now I'm just down to needing new keyed ignition and giant amount hours to get it out, so in the end, the valet Mohawk kid was the least of the dumbasses, now the locksmith on the hand, I can see the profile on the snapped in the hole key he made, I swear it's a house key. Oh and it looks like he used a screw driver to try and twist it. So the lesson you should all learn is punch the valet in the neck before you hand him your key so he knows what's coming. So I'm thinking maybe I should do those cv joints soon?
Bloody irritating falls well short of what this is... Lot's of folk likely thinking this, but thought to say: - Get a quote for an original 'new-old stock' replacement (including original keys, plus spares, etc.) from an "Official" Ferrari place that charges 'horsey' prices for parts and labor - Present this quote to the crew responsible for this debacle (tell them that they can scream at each other about who's going to pay what, get their respective lawyers involved, etc. once you are out of earshot) - Crack on... I had to do something like this when I had a car shipped to Europe. Got the shop to put together a bill, submitted it to the shippers, got a check that cleared... Robert's your father's brother! Hate these instances of rampant incompetence and sheer ignorance (usually mixed with people just not listening and/or arrogance)... To cite an extreme example, (without mentioning any names), a guy I know sold his P-51 Mustang and warned the buyer (who had little experience in flying the P-51) that you had to gun the Merlin on take-off. The guy didn't and subsequently totaled it (killing himself in the process) within a month of ownership. This was a good few years ago and of course nothing like this would happen today... right?
Sorry to hear your sad story. Get a new key here: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/308-328-sponsored-yellow-compass-group/503283-neiman-key-blank.html The key is coded so I believe you can take the key blank to a dealer and have a new key made. Shouldn't need to remove the steering column.
Have to remove, locksmith destroyed ignition by wedging a non Ferrari/fiat key and breaking it off inside, everything will need to come out
Here is what you need I guess? https://www.ebay.com/itm/191874768749 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
And this set doesn't come with original Neiman keys too... Geez what those valet guys had done! Is it possible to dissemble it by a proper automobile locksmith to remove the key? I'm remember BigTex had someone redo the lock inner cylinders so he can retain the original key.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ferrari-246-Ignition-Switch-Housing-Ignition-Keys-Steering-Wheel-Lock-Neiman-OEM-/152000385533 How about this one with original neiman keys?
I remain astonished at the stupidity that visited your car. The picture doesn't look too, too terrible though (except for the broken key stump that is jammed inside). If you're going to be paying, I would show the photos to a real old school locksmith and see what they say. Seems to me removing broken keys would be a common request. If someone else is paying, I'd jump on one of those switches Piezo found for you.
Just saw the pic, HOLY CRAP! You did not do justice to the degree of Effed up your poor car received. Best luck.
For anyone still following along the trials and tribulations of the fastest Ferrari out there, there is a price for an original key, there is a price for that new key and the nos key switch from Ferrari also there is a price for labor to fix it all for you, that price ladies and gentlemen is $6250.00
Just had my street racer given back to me, friend hammered out new tail section so I've been preoccupied, I've still had no action from company that damaged the Ferrari
Good god, $6000+ to replace the ignition switch/cylinder, bezel, and key? Or did something else happen as a result of the mishandling by the locksmith/valet?
Ferrari has one last nos key and lock in inventory, believe Germany $3300. I'm just absolutely thrilled about it, it's not a huge waste of my life or anything
