I went to see Chuck Berry in Brighton last night. Was brilliant ! Made it look so easy. Still rocking in his late 70s ! Especially if you're in the UK....http://www.chuckberry.com/fans/tour.html
I saw Chuck play about 20 years ago. It was amazing in the respect that he got pissed off at his band right in the middle of a song, stopped playing and fired them all on the spot! Next...he looked out over the crowd and asked, "Who knows my stuff?" Three guys (including my buddy Jim who played a mean piano) jumped up and headed for the stage. They all kinda looked at each other and smiled for a minute. Chuck casually started playing again, they joined in and voila! new band!!! I'll never forget that one...and I'm sure Jim won't either! DL
Did you ever see that documentary where Chuck gets short tempered with Keith Richards and nearly tells him to leave the rehearsal? Chuck's got bollucks! DL
While in college around '91 I was a waiter at an IHOP in St Louis. Chuck Berry would come in every so often very late at night (2am), usually with a few "ladies", and always in no condition to drive. He was a lot of fun, everybody knew him of course. Forget 50cent or Snoop, Chuck is the original P.I.M.P.
