Yesterday I hit a horrible chuck-hole on one of Oklahoma's finest. No way to avoid it; too late to swerve and it wasn't there the last time I drove the road.

At next stop I saw the bulge in sidewall and separation from the wheel. I drove 80 miles back home much slower and put on my spare wheel and Pirelli P-Zero. The Michelin Speed Sport had just 2500 mi. since all new tires in April. The shop broke it down today, it's ruined, and no warranty. New will be over $300 with mounting and balancing.

First time I've ever called the State over a road issue. It couldn't have been one of my old work trucks with a tire already on its last leg.

Anytime you hit a hole like this look hard at the tires. If it's been on the inside I'd never have seen it until the next time the car was on the lift. And I'll check for suspension damage, but all seems to be okay.

I really dont care that you have to pay 300$ for that, I dont even care that you hit that hole, I am sure glad you hit it with the car you are in then your old truck. Why? I am glad you hit it in a car that if the worst happend and you blew the tire, your in a car that you can controle alot better. I rather you spend 300$ then risk your life flipping down the road in an old truck. What I am trying to say is, Glad your not hurt!!!

Looks like it didnt damage the wheel. And luckily you didnt cause an accident or cause more damage to your car. Stuff like this sux, because alot of the times, the Council will not pay for damages. Sorry to hear. :)

Look at the inner diameter of the wheel. The wheel has so much offset that the inner diameter is not well supported and bends much more easily than the outer side.

I don't know about your state but here we can go after the city, county, whoever for the damage.

Excuse my midwestern ignorance, but is a "chuck hole" the same as a pothole?

A chuck hole is a pothole big enough to put your friend Chuck into, a pothole is one big enough for a kitchen pot :)

I can't find any wheel damage. We'll spin it on the balancer when the new tire comes in.

After studying it, I believe the left front wheel went in the left side of the hole (looked about 18" or more in dia. and I couldn't see any bottom) and was coming out of the hole before the right side of the tire or wheel hit the rim of the hole. The rear, being much wider was supported on solid pavement and thankfully didn't go in the hole.

Chances of collecting from my state are in the category of getting blood out of a turnip. They only take money in; no out-go. Too many crooks at every level. I'm just POed that the money doesn't seem to come back from the tax collector to where it belongs.

I'll consider the $300 loss as insurance and a cushion between the road and something much more valuable on the car. No swerve or any hint of an accident or any loss of control. Ron

I don't know about OK, but in MS the governmental entity responsible for road maintenance has no liability unless you can show they were notified about the hole and they did nothing about it within a reasonable period of time.

Where I live "doing something about it" usually consists of putting a large stick with an orange flag on the end in the hole until it gets fixed a week later. If you're lucky (and the hole is REALLY big) they may actually put an orange cone in front of it.

Too bad! What a shame! Things like this really make me F-ing MAD, why doesn't the government take care of the roads like they are supposed to? It's because they are too busy worrying about other crap, to care about the roads!

    Mr Norris?? :)

Seriously that is so annoying, if that was here in the uk I would demand the council paid, I don't know how slack they are where you are but this is what we pay road tax for, for roads to be maintained
