Who wants to caravan from Livermore / Dublin to South San Jose (101 & Blossom Rd) to pick up a group of cars to head on down to CI in Monterey on Aug 19th (Friday)???? Maybe we can get a few groups together like the last few years but we need to work out the times / meeting places for those who want to do this. So post your interest and thoughts... or not!

I'm in Campbell. Last time I went down we met at the shopping center at Bernal and San Ignacio in South San Jose and that seemed to work ok.

(Interestingly there is a Rue Ferrari right around the corner from this spot. Cool name but no Starbucks.)

Hey Brian, yep this spot in South SJ works if anyone else wants to hook up on 8/19... So what time should we meet? Last year, we left about 7:45amish and hit major traffic going down to Monterey...

Forget Friday morning. How about a Thursday afternoon convoy?!

Baja Cantina is a really nice start to the weekend on Thursday night!

I'm for leaving a little earlier, that's fine.

(I looked at a map and Rue Ferrari dead ends into Enzo Drive. Seems like a theme.)

I'm right near where 17 and 85 intersect, so the meeting point is close by. I haven't been to CI for about ten years now, in the past I'd always go over the hill via 17 and continue down 1 ... also I notice this time they won't let anyone in after 9 am. Well, I'll trust the group's judgement as to the route and departure time. 75 308gt4, red and tan.

My plans have changed slightly. I'm picking up my dad in Gilroy at the OSH right off the freeway. If we all feel like taking an extra three minutes to pick him up that would be great, if not I'll be splitting off and see you guys down there.

Do we have a meeting time at Bernal Rd.? Last placement is allegedly 9:30 (not that they ever turn anyone away). It is about 1.5 hours down there. LEAVING there at 8:00 am at the latest would be as late as I would go. Earlier would be better, even 7:00 or 7:30 departure?

I think it'd be cool to veer off the freeway for 3 minutes to get your dad. I read no cars in after 9 + I need to get my ticket at will call. Is there an agreed upon route ? Last my tires are ancient so 80 is about the max.

7:15 am departure then? Meetup at 7:00 am or before. Get a java kick tires, hit the road.

Remember that it is commute time, carpool hours are in effect. Some of us (ahem, me) will be solo so it would be kind not to go blowing down the carpool lane if it could be helped.

Google recommeds this route. Going down to 68 works also. Anyone have any opinions?

Bernal Rd & San Ignacio AveSan Jose, CA 95119

    1. Head east on San Ignacio Ave toward Bernal Rd 52 ft
    2. Turn left onto Bernal Rd 0.5 mi
    3. Continue straight to stay on Bernal Rd 0.1 mi
    4. Turn right onto the US-101 S ramp 0.3 mi
    5. Merge onto CA-85 S 171 ft
    6. Merge onto US-101 S 39.7 mi
    7. Take the ramp to Monterey/Peninsula
    0.4 mi 8. Merge onto CA-156 W 6.1 mi
    9. Continue onto CA-1 S 12.6 mi
    10. Take exit 401B to merge onto CA-68 E/Salinas Hwy toward Salinas 4.5 mi
    11. Turn left onto York Rd 1.4 mi

11:17pm now, not sure who's still monitoring this thread.

Won't the commute mostly be in the opposite direction, maybe no factor?

Since taking 101 not 17 & 1, we could cut over to 1 at 129 or 152, or approach the event opposite direction taking 101 all the way to Salinas to 68. I haven't done that since ~20 years ago, would enjoy that scenery again.

Boils down to, to avoid crowds and traffic will more approach from the coast (1) or inland (101) ?

See you all tomorrow, lest something goes really, really wrong here.

Seems like we had a successful caravan. Thanks for the detour to pick up my dad. He appreciated the four-Ferrari greeting. We both had a great time. Strangest thing: we were at the stage during the interview with Sir-Mix-A-Lot. My dad made a crack about how it is amazing anybody gets paid anything to make crap music like that. Fifteen minutes later he and Sir Mix are discussing the giant truck on display. Just kind of odd.

It was nice to meet all of you yesterday and we really enjoyed the caravan. The radios were a big help too. Didn't fully realize we'd have to split up once we got there. Saw zero Ferraris on the way home unfortunately...seems like with little organization people could line up at the event at a certain time, head out as a convoy...
Again thanks for organizing this caravan, it added greatly to our enjoyment of the day.

Yes, a nice little convoy road trip. We had a great time, even hanging out and leading the GPS-less Rob out from the bowels of Laguna Seca late Friday night. We did see one Boxer on the way home, he even gave us a little toot on the horn as he went by. Looking forward to next year!
