I just got my 308 back from the upholsterer and now the cigar lighter has a halo ring of light around the base, that light stays on even when the key is out, I've unplugged the battery for tonight, but how can I rectify this please? The upholsterer told me to remove the ash tray then slide the panel forward, up and out but then what do I do? I never use the lighter but I like everything to work as it should, I just don't think that light is supposed to be on constantly, I never even knew it was there before, maybe it didn't work before. It would help to identify the car (year etc) in the post or your profile. But assuming a generic 308, the cigar lighter has two power wires to it, one for the lamp which illuminates the clear ring and the other wire which powers the lighter. Also there is a black ground wire.

Sounds like the two power wires are reversed. This can be verified by pulling the cigar lighter fuse. (1980 left fuse 5 wires both yellow but have green stripe on lighter, black stripe on light).

Fix - You will have to remove the ash tray, unscrew the 2 screws in that hole, and lift the panel enough to get in there. I'd suggest disconnecting the battery safety ground in the left light pod assuming your car has one or otherwise remove power while messing about under the console.

The light stays lit when the lighter is pressed into the socket - when you want the lighter element to heat in order to light the cigar. Just pull the lighter up slightly and the light should go out.

Dr. Tommy, thanks, I'll post my own pictures soon, I'm waiting for Jovan, the detailer, to do his magic.

Paul 308, I just updated my profile as well, it is a 1982 GTBi.
