    Hello,

I purchased a Sharp Aquos LCC4254U 42" Full HD LCD TV from Circuit City two years ago. I also purchased their extended warranty program that I was told would cover everything and anything that happens to the tv for the warranty purchase fee. My display screen recently started showing a line in the picture so I immediately called circuity city to find out how I could get my tv checked out. Of course the warranty company out sourced the job to an independent contracted tv repair guy. The repair guy said it was the worst he had seen in his 7 years with the company and in the tv repair industry. After two weeks of repair shop having my tv, they ruled the tv "non cost effective replacement."

I purchased the tv for $1700 brand new and obviously before taxes and the warranty purchase and now the warranty company is only offering me a check for $548 or a refurnished tv. The refurbished tv would only have a 90 factory warranty and my extended warranty will have been "forfilled" despite it does not expire until September of 2012.

The warranty company were complete pricks about it and completely unprofessional. They said they would not do anything and check or refurnished tv were my only two options OR keep MY tv how it is. They also will not provide my offers in writing.

refurbished tv would be supplied by: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=4531672&sku=S226-4210&srkey=s226-4210

    warranty company:http://www.assurantsolutions.com/esc/consumerelectronics/index.html

Yes ignorant me should have read the warranty information/fine print and obviously not taken the salesman's word for it. What's fair to me is a replaced tv at current market price. How can you replace a tv with a refurbished one? I do not expect them to give me a tv for "what's hot" or "new" today but surely they should at least have to replace it with the same model but new or it's equivalent new...

    Any advice or help?

    I would greatly appreciate anything!!

My suggestion is to not buy any retailer's extended warranty and effectively self insure
    in the future.

The fine print and exclusions are how they make money on these contracts. Given the
fast depreciation rate of consumer electronics, they replace defective units for much
less than the initial purchase price.

Consumer electronics have become largely disposable items as the cost of even minor
repair exceeds the replacement cost in my experience.

Honestly... I would say take the check and consider it the price of being done with them. Count yourself lucky that you will be able to get anything out of them at all.

Then go buy a better TV than what you bought back then... and forget about the optional extended warranty.

While I agree that it is usually not a good idea to buy an extended service contract on consumer electronics, offering you a refurbished TV sounds fair to me. After all, your TV is two years old and if they repaired it, it would then be a refurbished TV anyway.

The $548 check is more then the warranty cost right? So you're ahead of the game.

Go buy a new TV. In two years they have dropped like a rock.

The Aquos is a nice TV, I have five of them and never a problem.

I would check the warranty info regarding forfeiting the balance of the warranty if you get a re-furb, the companies have been known to lie - often.

If the language says anything different than what they said, sue them in small claims (if available in your state) and/or contact the consumer protection agency for your state.

If all of the above fail or you don't want to go through the hassle I'd take the refurbished one, you probably have it mounted, wired, and controllers programed for it.

Take the check NOW - cash it FAST - and never buy an extended retail "box house"
    warranty again.

Be glad you're being offered ANYTHING at this point. "Extended warranties" are about
COLLECTING the money, not REIMBURSING the money.
