Man, those landing gear must be tough...they were lucky. A Lear did that at CAE, although a bit faster when a tire blew on take off, with fatalities.

The Captain (owner of the airplane) unfortunately suffered some serious injuries, however as you said - they were incredibly lucky. Jury is out whether this was brake related, or tailwind related or both. It was also the third Citation jet to over run the runway there!!!

The N999LJ accident was just one of those horrible accidents, the aircraft itself had an under inflated tyre that exploded on takeoff damaging the squat switch - which caused the thrust reversers to be stowed - resulting in a high speed accident.

Sad part is there was a previous Lear 60 accident in 2001, N1DC, they hit two deer upon landing, deer remains damaged the squat switch casing the thruster's to be stowed, as power was added - aircraft locked it's wheels to stop and skidded for 3000 feet.

NTSB recommending changing the squat switch system, which was never implemented, and as a result, was a indirect cause of N999LJ's accident.
