    Hello everybody,
The largest peacetime airlift in history starts this weekend. 325 Citations will bring 2,000 athletes to the Special Olympic Games in Lincoln, Ne. Roger Nutter, of Escondido, Ca. and I will be picking up 4 of the athletes from Long Beach, Ca. and dropping them off in Lincoln, and returning a week later to pick them up, for the return trip home. View all the details at www.airlift.cessna.com and go to the bottom and click on "view the update video of the event" Really cool! This is my second time doing this. Love it! That's a really great part of flying!

Hey guys, I am posting this up with pictures for Gary Bobileff here's a write up from him and pictures on the Special Olympics event which he's doing:

    Dear Fellow Aviation-Chat / F-Chatters:

Saturday, Roger Nutter and I and passengers departed Long Beach, CA. and made a lunch/potty stop outside Denver. The burgers and lots of ice cream was a big hit with the kids. Ten on to Lincoln. These photo's are at Lincoln. This week, all the passengers we took are competing in track and field events. Next Friday, Roger and I will go to Lincoln to pick everyone up for the return home. Wheels up 9 AM Saturday.

These kids truly need a break. A big one! This event is tremendous to boost their self esteem.

    Sincerely,
    Gary Bobileff

Here's a nice message from: KEVFLA sent Sunday at 1:17pm:

    "Hi Gary,

How did it go yesterday? would you mind posting a recap of the day's activities?
my stepson is a participant and I suppose her flew out of MCO or Orlando Exec. I'll crap if he got a ride on a X (10)!

Much like giving track-day rides to Make-A-Wish kids, its tough not to be moved by )the contrast of) both their physical situation and their happy personalities.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for your sizable contribution to making the airlift possible!

I hope you found the emotional rewards of your help priceless.

    Best regards,
    Kevin Flankey a/k/a KevFla

I spoke with Jayla Sweely from Cessna Textron yesterday. She is the contact person that Cessna uses for the Special Olympics. She explained to me that one of the 4 southern California aircraft last Saturday didn't show up. I had already departed, so they took the other remaining athletes and coaches and luggage on the other two Citations bound for Lincoln, Ne. There was only one person remaining, a delegate to the Special Olympics. She said that Textron immediately dispatched a Citation 10 from Wichita , sent it to Long Beach, picked up the delegate, and brought him to Lincoln! How's that for commitment from Cessna!

Cessna has played a HUGE part in getting US Special Olympians to and from the games for several years. I participated as an official (soccer referee) at the World Games in Raleigh NC back in 99 or 2000 (i cannot remember now). I was fortunate enough to get to ride in a Citation from ATL to Raleigh. It was really cool seeing the kids out at the airport, most of them had never flown before, and most had never been out of the state.

I would like to thank all of the pilots, crew, Cessna, and the companies that donate their private jets, and time, each year so that these kids can experience something that they might never get to again in their lifetimes.

It always amazed me the lack of support some of these kids get from their own families. I used to work each summer at the GA summer games and seeing the same kids each year come to compete, alone, without any family support is heart breaking. It was really sad to think that these kids just want to have fun and compete (sometimes on the world's stage) and no one but their coaches come to see them.

I encourage anyone to volunteer at your local Special Olympics events, it will truly change the way you look at life........

BIG BIG BIG props to Roger Nutter and Gary Bobileff for contributing to a very worthy cause!!!

    Well everyone,
The Special Olympics is now over, with Roger and I flying back 4 very happy, and very tired athletes from Lincoln to Long Beach, Ca. this past Saturday, all donning multiple silver, bronze and gold medallions around their necks! Quite an achievement for them! But, watching the local news Friday night, I was blown away by the Special Olympics Organizers. It showed on the news that the 2,000 or so athletes that participated were all asked to come into a special building. As they would take the first athlete into a room, they asked " May I check your eyesight?" , after examinations, if glasses were recommended, glasses were given, of the correct prescription, on the spot. Then the athlete was moved into the next room where they were asked " May I check your hearing?" , and after the test, if hearing aids were needed, they were now equipped. They moved on and then asked" May I check your teeth?", and cavities were remedied on the spot. This done all Gratis by the Committee and Organizers of the event! Amazing, these people are heroes! God bless them! I am so impressed!

    Gary,
You and Roger are heroes too! The athletes could not have been there to receive the medical care if it wasn't for your generosity by donating your flight services...twice! My stepson was flown R/T on a Mustang. Haven't talked to him yet to see how he fared in tennis.

    Many thanks again.
