A business partner of mine runs a magazine subscription business in the city of LV - they do renewal mailouts for major magazines (ie. National Geographic) across the country. He's only been operating for a few months after getting a contract from a larger direct mail company.

He had registered with the state when he set up his LLC. Out of the blue last week the City of Las Vegas, The "Dept of Taxation" and The "Dept of Business Planning" all came after him saying he needs a laundry list of permits from the city and owes over $500 in fees. The letters had threats of him being arrested if he didn't comply immediately. An official admitted to my friend that because his business address is a PO Box, a regular citizen couldn't file a complaint - it had to have been someone on 'the inside.'

I thought Nevada was supposed to be some paradise for small business, the anti-California?? Over $650 in fees to start a business sounds like a crock of crap to me. I thought Massachusetts was bad at $500. And they're commerce-hating Commies.
