Back in the 80's my Mother in law and my sister in law were visiting relatives back in England - Cotswolds... any way the were out walking back from the market on a weekday morning... and saw a shiny red sports car... and as they approched my sister in law realized it was Eric Clapton washing the car... so she stoped and got an autograph, but he declined a photo, but talkd to them for quiet some time....thought it was a great story ... shows he is a nice guy.

Most of Eric's vintage guitar collection he auctioned off to benefit his drug rehabilitation program on the island of Antigua, where he has a house. His guitars fetched far, FAR more than he had anticipated, some sold for high six-figures each.....I was surprised to see him part with his 'named' Fender Strats used on 'EC was Here", 'Layla' and "Oceans Blvd".....

Years ago my uncle was on vacation in Monserrat. He struck up a conversation with an attractive lady at the hotel bar and she said she was here with her husband. When asked what he did, she said he was in music. "Oh" replied my uncle, "My daughter is in charge of hiring entertainment at Harvard. Maybe she can get him work if he's ever in the area!"

At that point her husband walked in, and sat down to join them. Every now and then people would walk up and ask for an autograph, and my uncle, who was the head of the English Dept. at UConn and not exactly on top of things, did start to wonder. He repeated the offer and he said he'd think about it in the future if things worked out. He was currently set to go to Japan. Having lived there a few years, my uncle had all kinds of advice for him.

They ended up having dinner together, and upon returning to the US, my uncle asked my mom, "Have you ever heard of a guy named Eric Clapton? People seem to know him." As I was playing in a high school band at the time, and she was sick of my endless renditions of "Sunshihe Of Your Love" she said, "Yes, that's some guy Ken likes. He plays his songs."

Of course, it was Pattie Boyd with him; this would have been around 1977. He didn't even get me a guitar pick or autograph!

    Sorry no Ferrari content...
