Speeding Clapton Loses Driver's License DIJON, France (AP) -- Eric Clapton won't be driving in France for a while. Police said they clocked the rock star speeding down a highway at 134 mph and suspended his license. Radar caught Clapton whizzing down a highway Tuesday in his Porsche 911 Turbo at 53 mph above the speed limit, police said. He was stopped near the town of Merceuil, south of Beaune, near Dijon and some 190 miles east of Paris. Police confiscated Clapton's British driver's license, suspending his right to drive in France. Clapton, 59, took the bad news well, agreeing to a photo session with police. After paying a $922 fine, he then rolled away in his Porsche - this time in the passenger seat with his secretary behind the wheel, police said Thursday. Clapton can still drive in Britain, but he will have to recover his license through a diplomatic route, police said. A court hearing, at which he need not be present, will determine the time his license is suspended in France.
Wow, the French are usually pretty lax about speed enforcement. I've driven faster than that there and never had a worry. I also know people who have been stopped for going maybe 110-120mph (in an 80mph area) but the fine was like $50.

Clapton owns an Enzo. He's the only one to drive it from the factory instead of shipping it. Had he been in the Enzo, the speed might have been a smidge higher
214 kph isn't all that impressive. Last year I had a diesel Opel station wagon filled with three people and equipment up to 199.5 kph (I tried but I just ouldn't go any faster) on the autobahn. Art S.
OK let me get this striaght. Clapton is doing 134MPH is a TURBO and actually stopped for the cops on roads in France! What an ass, he really needs to hang with the EC playas a bit and get a few driving lessons in that student driver Vette!
