Ahhh who gives a **** it has 380hp. 380hp is pretty good for the price!
80K GBP is 142K USD. not sure what comparisons you can argue to suggest that 300 lb-ft of torque is "pretty good for [that] price". doody.
Just withdrew my name from the waiting list for the AMV8 today and asked for a refund of my depost. I'll probably change my mind and get one in the Spring of '07, but have lost interest in it over the course of the 30+ months that I've been on the waiting list for it.
Since you've been waiting that long, you'll probably get one of the earliest deliveries (ie, in a few months). So why back out now? If you don't like it for some reason, you can always flip it during the initial gotta-have-one period. If you wait til 07 and end up not liking it, chances are you'll get stuck with keys-dropped-from-a-Learjet depreciation. Just a thought...
My 2000 M5 had 400hp for $69k an dthat was over 5 years ago. The new M5 will have 500hp for well less than $100k. So while the AM looks wonderful, for dollar per HP, the M5 is a much better deal...
for the first time i finally get to see the AM V8 Vantage today. i have driven the DB9, so i was already sold. The exterior, and interior, both styling and finish are equivalent of each other. (the DB9 will have to a hard time to justify itself for the surcharge on the V12). Just an amazing piece of sculpture.
I would have thought that I would indeed be getting one of the first ones, but the salesman told me that deliveries should start in February and he estimates I would get mine in the late Summer. Being in Michigan, I don't want to take delivery of a car 2 months before I have to put it away for the winter. So that certainly influenced my decision. Also, I don't think there is gonna be a craze for this car. Maybe for a month or two, but I doubt people will be getting much over MSRP.
not to mention a z06 with 505hp and 65k, a c6vette at 400hp and 42k,and even the 911 has better power to weight ratio for 80k....but i dont think people who buy the am care about power to weight ratio per dollar....they want the style and uniqueness of the am...i suspect most of their cars will used as fancy cruisers more than all out sports cars.......

911's are made around in the thousands, aren't they? AM is planning on doing 3,000-4,000 AMV8 a year for its global network. Personally, I think the horsepower war is getting dumb. How many people actually race these cars? I think Aston Martin has a very sexy and luxurious car, as well as an expensive, exclusive brand. I love Porsche, but they are all over the place with the 911 price-wise, and they are common.
Doody is right on the money. It has nothing to do hp. Its a 3400-3500lb car with 275ft torque. The only way to get it to go fast is to wring the bugger out with short gears. Fun, in a Mustang Mach 1 sort of way, but not nearly as fast. I've shown that Aston Martin has not used the best engine available for the car. On the DB7, you can change the Roots supercharger to a Lyshom (sp) screw supercharger for a 100bhp gain for 400bhp out of a 3.2L inline six without any change to the stock internals, fuel delivery, or ignition. Just intake, exhaust, and ECU mapping. If this is Aston Martin's key to maintaining exclusivity, 'nuff said. Sunny
