I think everyone is the world is aware Clarson hates anything American. I think he's still bitter that they lost the Colonies....

Ford gt was his favorite car. Traded it for a Lamborghini Gallardo spyder, probably because he's too tall.

there was a good article about zr1 in ny times today. was very impressed with its refinement which i was suprised at.

more interestingly, the reviewer felt a std vette is too flashy compared to cayman, m3 competition but the zr1 is actually understated compared to its performance peers like lambo, ferrari, etc. i still feel it needed more differentiation from z06

I saw my first one last week at the state fair of Texas - I also feel that it does not quite "stand out" from other C6 Corvettes enough. Remember that this was one of the factors which limited the appeal of the C4 ZR-1...it just did not look any different from other Corvettes.

You could almost make the point that the big-block mid years cars made more of a statement with the power bulge hood than this little clear window on the new ZR1.

It was a aftermarket alarm that kept causing all kinds of problems.

clarkson is a badly dressed ponce with scurvy teeth. and he cant drive worth a damn. however, when he occasionally forgets about the loss of the colonies, he can be quite funny. otherwise most of the stuff he has to say about cars is worthless. the show is a success because of all the airtime given to great cars.

Good post Ross, I agree with your sentiment. The guy preferred a Solid Rear Axle Mustang to a Z06, so go figure.

It's not worthless - it's entertainment ;) Fifth Gear also get flash cars (Enzo, Gumpert, Lambos etc) yet the show isn't as popular. Still say it's just the cars?

He's certainly a very entertaining fellow with a strong interest in cars. However, if you want an opinion on how a car actually is, you can watch Fifth Gear. The thing is, I know Fifth Gear is more about actual cars, but it's so damn boring! Top Gear is hilarious and my friends who aren't in to cars love to watch it with me because it's simply one of the best shows on TV.

its very entertaining, and clarkson can be very funny, as i already said. i just think his actual assessment and opinion about cars is relatively worthless. the real value of the show is the laptime that the stig gets and occasionally when they give us the stig's opinion.

i have had the opportunity to meet clarkson several times, but i have always declined since i have no interest in him as a person.

The fact that Clarkson couldn't or wouldn't point out that the aftermarket alarm was causing the problems illustrates the real story.
America bashing is good for ratings in England, so why not? I like the show's vintage car coverage, but most of their opinions on the cars have to do with strongly biased personal preference.

He did like the '09 CTS-V...go figure.

if the zr-1 is built anything like the z06, i believe him. haven't driven the zr-1 but the zo6 was crap. i also liked the ford gt. maybe it's because my surname is british.

He doesn't hate Porsches. He has praised both the last generation (996 mk1) and current generation (997) GT3s many times in Top Gear. He praised the 997 Turbo too.

Sorry, my mistake. I must've have gotten the wrong impression.

But I did get the idea that he loves Mercedes?

He loved the C63 over the M3 and Audi RS4.
He loved the SLK in a Boxster/SLK shootout, even though the Boxster "won".
He loved the SLR McLaren while he drove through multiple countries in Europe.

Let him drive an R-class, maybe the last of the R-Class AMGs... maybe he'll find a reason to love it too... ;)
