Don't know how many of you regularly read either Classic & Sports Car or classiccars - both have Fcar articles this month F50/308 respectively.

Am I the only one who has never been able to find an Fcar at the low prices they publish? I realise the price guides are only indicative and cover a wide age range for the same car - but they always seem to be far too low.

As an example C & SC state that the F50 featured is worth £200k - anyone ever seen one for sale at that price? The cheapest one I've seen was about 400k euros @ £280k - which is 40% more than C & SC quote.

One day maybe Steve - well we can all dream.

Still 15% more than that quoted by C & SC - you could get a really good 2nd Fcar with the difference!

I've noticed the same thing. It must really annoy advertisers. In a recent issue of Classic & Sports Car there were several Daytonas and Dino246's for sale through respected dealers, but all at prices way in excess of their guide. Strange. And when did you last see a TR available at 22k, their 'average' price for this model?!

They reckon you can get a 'show' 328GTS from a dealer for £32k. Yeah right.

That said, if you want a real laugh, look at Parkers Price Guide next time you are in the newsagents; they reckon you will get a mint 99 355 GTS from a dealer for £52k.

As you say, show me where....

    Robert.

You have to remember these magaziines are aimed at (and written by) the Triumph Spitfire/Austin 40 "classic car" enthusiast. When it comes to ant sort of specialist or exotic stuff they seem a little out of their depth. After all, I bet they are basing their opinions on ads that have appeared in their magazine - rather than any in depth knowledge of the market.

    Hector,

I'm not sure I'd agree that C&SC or Classic Cars are aimed at that readership. That's more Practical Classics & Classic Car Weekly territory.

If you want to see unrealistically HIGH estimates, check out Octane. When they did a feature on my Daytona last month, they kept quoting '£100,000 for a good one'.

Well, that may - just - be true of exceptionally low mileage minters, but for well-maintained, moderate mileage cars (even at dealers) it's £15k too high....

I am in the trade and have to agree with everybody else. Price Guides are well out of proportion. I know of a restoration project 308 gtb fibreglass and I know this will fetch far more than their guide list. I think they use auction prices only for Fcars, But full dealer prices for the likes of MG/Triumph etc. Other than that its one of the better publication. Take it with a pinch of salt.

    Hi John

What is your opinion on Daytona spyder prices?

Is there much of a difference between an original spyder and a coupe that has been converted?

    Cheers Kevan

:) See you down the road - with huge grins on both our faces :)
