One of the greatest photo essays on any car in a magazine was David Douglas Duncan's coverage for Collier i think, of three Mercedes 300SLS prototypes being convoyed over the alps. For this photo essay, really a PR stunt done right, Mercedes gave Duncan a black gullwing (though I have seen pictures of him with a lighter color one).He was friends with Pablo Picasso who admired the car and gave it to him and it was later driven by Claude Picasso, Pablo's son. My question is what was the SN of the black one and does Claude still have it? And did Duncan own more than one? I think I read Claude is a collector of rare Porsches. Duncan also did a whole photo book on his black gullwing, probably emphasizing his trip to Moscow in the car, which i think showed the Russian people how Communism had failed hen they couldn't produce a car anything like this.
