Clay will be at Wings Over the Rockies at Lowry in Denver. Thursday April 28th. For those that are interested or/and local. Giving a talk.
He did a film on our F-111s back in the mid-80s. Very professional flying and great equipment. ATC treated him like a god.
I remember when he flew a Douglas DC-7 as a pylon racer in at least one of the Mojave long-distance air races back in the '70s. Since he carried Snoopy along in his P-51 racer, he called the DC-7 "Super Snoopy". (The second time he had opposition - "Fish" Salmon showed up with a Constellation that he naturally called "Red Baron". The FAA took a dim view of pylon-racing propliners and put a stop to the effort.)
You're not wrong! .. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clay_Lacy So many fascinating side-stories to this .. I'm even designing software to help me link all kinds of odds and ends together into a navigable whole.. I just keep discovering new-to-me things I need to keep track..
Clay is somewhat controversial, but he was very pleasant to me the one time I spent some time with him.
I'm not local but visited that museum a month ago. What a place! I stumbled onto it and ended up spending a few hours. The Wright Brothers flight sim is really neat.
The Air Force Acadamy started at Lowry while they were building the campus near Colorado Springs. B-25 training took place there during WWII - there's an old bombing range out East of Aurora.
I'm guessing Clay has someone who writes and manages his Wikipedia page. Not that there's anything wrong with that...
