Part of the 40km service is to "clean the blow by system". How does one do this? Does this just imply removing/inspecting the hoses, flush them with solvent, is the oil separator something you can just soak in solvent? Is there any other part of the pcv system that casues problems? Aside from it being the time to do this, I have noticed the spark plug threads on removal are soaked with clean oil, not carbonized. Is this from too much crankcase pressure, or just a leak of the the cam cover gasket (not obvious there is a cam cover leak) percolating past the spark plug washer?
Throw the vapor seperator in solvent and soak it. Sometimes they rust the baffling internally. Get it cleand out so none of the pipes are obstructed. Make sure the return hose to the crankcase is clear. Oil on plugs is from VC gaskets.
Thanks, the blow by looks like quite a simple engineering solution...but hard to believe a new vapour separator is worth $600+, I will treat it like gold when removing the hoses from it... I'm sure its obvious, but what is the "VC" gasket?
I always think of the valve cover as the cam cover... For others who are wondering about the blow by system, a search for "Cloth Braided Hose" picks up a number of threads which help understand the blow by system as well as other good points about sourcing the hose. Thanks for the help.
