Do you have access to a soda blaster? It can be sprayed directly on glass, rubber, plastic, etc., and cleans amazingly well. Worth a try if you are just going to throw them away anyway. I'll take your old ones if you are just going to toss them.
I use a waterless, non-abrasive hand cleaner, like Go-Jo to remove the black soot that accumulates on the back of my car and it takes it off nicely. I then follow up with a mild detergent to remove all traces of the hand cleaner. If it's soot on the inside of your lenses, it should work.
I have what looks like a crack in the right brake light lense. It rains 60 inches a year here. If I can't fix/seal it, mother nature will, as always, win. Help?? chris
Cyanoethacrylic (aka Plastic Surgery, Crazy Glue is an ok substitute) a tiny drop on the inside of the crack will seal it. Best applied with a hypodermic syringe or plastic pipette (hobby shops stock them), or very very carefully with a toothpick. Also some model airplane cements. You want the cement very thin so it will wick into the crack & fill it. Make sure everything's clean & the crack is dry as a trace of moisture will cause an instant cure of the crazy glue & it won't penetrate.
verell, I was leaning toward the plastic model cement, but wasn"t sure aobut the wicking properties of it or the crazy glue??? On a side note how are the plastic buckets for the engine cover coming?? thanks, chris
At Ferrari UK, they have different part numbers for US and European lenses, I wonder what is the difference because they look the same to me? Talking about 1980-1982 GTSi, the US lenses are about 40 UKP, the Euro lenses about 60 UKP...??? (add 17.5 % tax and shipping). For 40 UKP I just might consider to get 4 new ones, 60 is over my limit as I don't really need new ones but that clean, bright red and orange/white (you call it amber) look is so nice.
SureHold's Plastic Surgery wicks in very nicely, just hold the crack open a tiny bit & apply it to the back side. Here's a couple of links about it: http://www.thistothat.com/gom/2000.03.shtmlhttp://www.surehold.com/adhesives.asp This is the adhesive that I used a couple of years ago to repair my broken wiper stalk. It's still holding up! As to model cement, go to a hobby shop & ask for one that glues acrilic plastic & wicks in. They'll tell you what to buy. Sorry, refresh me on this one? I think I've let something slip thru the cracks...
Sorry, refresh me on this one? I think I've let something slip thru the cracks...[/QUOTE] Verell, A couple of weeks ago, You indicated that you were working on engine lid release lever plastic buckets - say that ten times fast. So, how are you doing with the plastic casting? Thanks for the advice on the lense and the glue. chris.
Not totally sure on this, but I believe the early Euro 308s had the back up lights in the bumper, not in the amber rear lights...this was changed later, I think with the injected cars in 1980.
Ahhh, terminology, the bonnet & boot release lever housings... They're getting close to the top of my priority list.Hmm, after reviewing US's mfg committments, It looks like I'll cast the 1st bonnet/boot housings very late this month or very early next month.
