O.K. so I have used the search feature to find what I can about doing this. I know to try and keep water out of the spark plug holes and to try and keep the electrical connections dry. I have read about clear grease for the connections but not sure what that is or where to get it. What else should I look out for? I really need it give it a good scrubbing around the intake and transmisson. Most of the aluminum parts need a wash actually. Any suggestion on cleaners to use?

    Thanks,

    Mike

You want to tape off all electrical connections. Buy an engine degreaser ... Griot's has a a good one (http://www.griotsgarage.com/product/car+maintenance/restoration/engine+cleaner%2C+35+ounces.do) - you may want to get a scrubbing brush, and probably some fender guards as you'll be leaning into the car.

Once you get it all scrubbed down, blow it off with an air compressor. You should also spray all the back elements with Adam's In-and-Out spray from Adam's Polishes ... they might have stopped selling it, but it's much better than the Griot's Engine Gloss product. A place in Colorado still has some 303-523-8707. Some people like WD-40.

Oh, you'll be asking this too at some point .... to detail the black slats on the back, nothing works better than Mineral Oil. It's a little embarrassing buying it at the drug store ... but it seriously does a better job than any car product out there.

    Thanks!
I just order from Griot's. Is the Griots engine clear good on aluminum? WD-40 works good on rubber and other surfaces as long as it doesn't stain the material. Can you elaborate on the use of the Mineral Oil?

Just take a cloth and pour some oil on it and rub it on the slats. You'll want to work it in so it's even all across. It makes it look brand new. You're always welcome to stop by Columbia for a demonstration!

I may just do that, your only 20 miles away. I really want to clean this car up. Needs a little TLC and it should look pretty good. Do you go to the Sunday morning Rocky Hill meets?

Yeah I do stop by from time to time. I'm not sure yet how this Sunday's looking ... but I might stop by.
