So, I’ve seen where everyone recommends scrubbing bubbles to clean the engine bay, etc. but have not seen any recommendations on cleaning under the side covers? Any recommendations for that? Is it still safe to clean with scrubbing bubbles and rinse with water since the ECUs are underneath there?

You could unbolt the ECUs from their brackets and spot clean with a toothbrush or similar then put a plastic bag over them. Pretty simple to do but 1 or 2 of the nuts are tucked up in there. When I pulled mine to be tuned there was a lot of oily build-up on the surface/heatsink, so I would definitely clean them while you're in there and not simply cover up and clean everything else.

Compressed air, a soft brush, a microfiber towel, elbow grease.... That's all.
    Detaching, unscrewing, unfixing.....better not.
Old parts, old.connectors, old brittle cables, old screws, old ties..... "The one who searches for troubles....at the end finds them..." My two cents

For greasy/oily things I use paint thinner with a paint brush and then wash off with a hose.

Then I use LA Totally Awesome diluted 50/50 (from Ollie's) with a cheap paint brush cleaning every surface, nook and cranny and then hose off.

For the paint brushes, I get the Home Depot wooden handle ones for like $.85 or what ever they are. Typically 1 inch wide.

When done, I fire it up and let it get warm and evaporate the water off the engine.

I wouldn’t go spraying water or cleaner, especially Scrubbing Bubbles on all that wiring and connectors.

My engine is spotless, but under my side covers it’s filthy too. I just left it dirty and out the covers back on.

This whole scrubbing bubble is a joke. Keep those products away from my car. Use real detailer products with the right chemicals. Stick with a mild APC and good brushes. Light flow of water or steam.
    That is all you need.

I’m guessing they figured out somewhere along the way that they should move those electrical components. My 08 is pretty minimalist under the covers. And easy to clean.

Ferrari sometimes seems to forget how to do something the best way. For example, ECU location: 355 cabin, 360 engine bay (hot!!), F430 again in cabin. Exhaust more "dampened" in 360, in F430.... no and more vibrations (and more likely to have broken headers...).

If you've got a can of compressed air lying around, it's a pretty neat trick for getting rid of dust and junk from tricky spots without needing any fancy cleaners or water. Plus, if your vacuum has one of those brush attachments, you can give it a gentle go to suck up the dirt and grime hiding under those side covers.
