Hello. Does anyone ever go to the trouble of cleaning their wheel arch linings on their F cars? Just wondered whether there was a way to give them a thourough clean without taking the wheels off? Thanks, Chris.
Chris, go to a decent motor factors and get yourself a drum of TFR (traffic film remover), then go to B&Q and get a planter waterer (the one where you pump the contents up to pressure before spraying) water the TFR down y about 50% in the sprayer, jet wash the under wheel area as best as you can then spray TFR on inner wheel arches (making sure you dont get it on the paint work, as it'll remove wax!) let it work for 20 mins (I tend to clean the rest of the car whilsts it working) and then jet wash it off and use wash the arch down with soapy water. this also does alloy wheels as well but you must nutralise the TFR after your done
I use the pressure washer to remove as much grime as I can. Where can you get this TFR - will they have it in the local car accessories shop?
I get it from the local motor factors, its not the sort of thing that Halfords or Motorworld would stock, just look in the yellow pages under motor factors, if they want to charge you more than £30 for 25 litres go somewhere else , it's pretty much the same as most alloy wheel cleaners........but a fraction of the cost (wonderwheels in costco is £10 for 5 litres, TFR is £25 for 25L in my local factors)
Hello. Thanks again for the useful information. I will try and get hold of some and give it a go. Happy New Year, Chris.
Chris, If you look through the phone book for a company called Auto Smart, they will have a franchise nearby. We use a product called G101. This will need to be watered down to 5:1 then using a spray bottle spray on the under wheel arch area. Agitate the area with a stiff brush then use a LOW PRESSURE gardenhose to rinse off. If you use a Pressure washer, you increase the risk of forcing water behind the wing panels and wheelarch covers. Make sure you wear gloves as the product will leave your hands feeling slimey if not. Once clean, the spray on a protectant such as Mothers Protectant to keep the shine. If you do this regularly enough it will stay clean and be easier each time. Hope this helps. Kev
