I realize it's an odd subject...but does anyone have any info or experience with all these "flushes" and "cleansing" programs??? I was a bit alarmed with the potential of carrying around several pounds of "unwanted" matter in our bodies. I heard that when John Wayne was autopsied, they found over 50-pounds of crap inside him....and that our diet typically causes all sorts of issues that relates to our overall health. In particular, I'm looking at Dr. Schulze's products...a friend of mine swears & raves about them and the results, but I'm a tad hesitant. But then a personal trainer also told me it would be a good idea. So....anyone got any thoughts?
Starvation diet for one week (water and vitamin supplements) with a daily high colonic to (ahem) boot!!
My friend at work does this and swears by it. He uses all natural products and says he feels "cleaner?". I'll just continue to binge and purge. LOL Steve, if you want to talk with my friend, give me a call and I'll put you in touch with him.

I had done it twice, felt much better afterwards, but spoke with my aunt who is a nutritionist and she swears it doesn't actually have any positive effects you couldn't gain with some extra metamucil or bran in your diet. Apparently the more popular ones destroy the natural flora of your intestines and can actually be detrimental to digestion, so if you do go that route, eat plenty of natural yoghurt to get them back. I agree that the results are extraordinarily disgusting, however, I did lose weight and seemed to have more energy. That said, I achieved a better result with a juice fast (Grapefruit juice for breakfast, V-8 through the day, and I cheated and went with broth/bouillion for dinner) then add plenty of honey and cayenne pepper tea, for a period of a week. I had more energy than I can remember for quite some time.
Come on Dave, we've both tried that before....only problem is we cheated and went off the diet 6 1/2 days short of the full week. Whoever invented "bottomless streak fries" should be shot....it's just not fair.
Snopes says it's the story that's a load of crap My own personal observation is that the people who are into the whole "cleansing" thing are pretty F'ed up health wise. They have wacky eating habits and more than anything they need to get some nice meds to help deal with their obsessive/compulsive (or whatever) psych problems.
I had a colonoscopy recently, and had to (ahem) 'clean out'. These people know what works. 12 oz.'s of the stuff they gave me and the only thing coming out looked like tap water--at about 30 psi...
To avoid a dirty Sanchez porn stars use a few Fleet Enemas prior to filming to clean out, at least that's what Howard Stern has said.
Thanks Mark for the backhanded compliment I did it b/c my fiancee bought it and suggested it - seemed like an interesting thing to try, and I did feel better (but definitely didn't lose 5+ lbs of impacted anything). However, I don't have wacky eating habits, and I'm not stricken with ocd, but a nice cleanout (I prefer the fasting) does feel good once a year.
I guess maybe I should have clarified it a bit more by saying people that I had personally known who are into it..... basically a chicks with eating disorders and not a lot of common sense. Not exactly a good sample of the population but it's what I have observed.
I couldn't agree more. The people who swear by "cleansing" are the same people who buy Kevin Trudeau's book.
Thanks Jon, just so happens to be the very same source that one of my salesman/contractors HIGHLY swears by. He and many of his friends have "done it" and he aboslutely proclaims these herbal formulas to work 100% effective. He rarely gets sick, has great energy, isn't over-weight, etc, etc. Me...I'm almost ALWAYS sick during the winter, and once I get sick it loves to settle/lodge into my lungs and linger for months. My immune system is virtually worthless. If you read all this stuff and talk to people, they always tell you that you have to start by cleaning out the "drain", etc....and that all the back-up has your body taxed with trying to fight-off all the problems. I didn't think much of it till some trainers at my gym also suggested it. Then you start thinking....what do ya have to lose? Could there be several pounds of built-up crap in the intestines? Why do so many people insist it's a good thing? As for the fasting idea.....sounds great, only problem is I get hungry after 5-6 hours
Well, I know two people my age that do this. I do not. Neither of them can out run or even keep up running with me. I think this is just another way to try to "chemically" make up for not eating healthy or working out!
