My testarossa was last ferrari serviced last year. While it was there, I asked for their opinion on applying a clear bra or paint protective film. They told me it wasn't recommended. Lately, with summer here, my ferrari has become a murder weapon for hundreds of families of bugs. I'm trying to figure out if they didn't recommend it because it truly isn't advisable, or if they didn't recommend it because they didn't want to deal with it. Unfortunately, overall, I got the impression that I was a bother to them. I just want to know the truth so that I can best protect my car.

I my opinion, they were right to advise you not to go with any form of plastic wrap. Your paint is very old and you run a huge risk of lifting that lovely original paint away from your car when the time comes to remove the plastic - and you will have to remove the plastic!

I have a clear bra just on the nose of my 512. I had the nose refinished when I bought the car and then a bout 60 days later added the bra. About 2 years later I had it R&R and had no issues with the new paint. I would not run without one. I bought a TR in 2007 which had perfect paint and went on a 250 mile drive thru the mountains and when I got home the nose was totally pitted. I was sickened. If you want to really drive it get a clear bra. I think the last one nose only was like $450. verses at least $1500-2000 to respray the nose.

The clear film is still damaged by stones. You cannot ‘fix’ damaged film. Peel it off and there is a likelihood that it will destroy the entire paint below.

Rock chips in paint are easily repaired.
Rock chips in film likely require a full repaint.

    Film sucks.

A clear bra is the only way to go but I would not do it on an older car for fear of lifting the paint. I have it on my F12 and 458 and they look perfect all the time and its easy to clean. no swirl marks. the film is self healing so when it gets hot it patches itself up from chips
