    Dear All,

I finally got my plates and registration from the Auto Toy Store in NJ after 6months with the assistance of a lawyers letter and consumer protection. Carfax shows the car transfered to me and I should shortly receive the title.

A big lesson learned, get the paperwork\titlework when you pay, even if it is a dealer.

Let me know if anyone needs a carfax done. I will happy to run it for them as I signed up for unlimited checks for a month, I have a few days left.

    Thanks
    Vishal

    Feel free to pm me.

    Thanks

Wow, nice to hear it all worked out!

Maybe I should have taken my title from my dealer, huh? In Cali, they usually won't give it to you - they mail it to the DMV.

The DMV then mails your new title in US Mail with no signature required... GENIUS!!!

    Vishal,

I have kept up with your story (very unfortunate) and I believe we've all learned a lesson to stay away from dealers with the word toy in their business names. While I agree 100% with your assessment that one should always have the title paperwork completed at the time of purchase, why would it be otherwise? Is it not illegal for any dealer to sell a car without that car's title in hand? I thought that was part of the law once licensed as a dealer.

Don't assume that a dealer has the title just because he has the car for sale.

It is important to ask! Without a title you have nothing.

If in doubt spend $100 and get an escrow agent.
