Hey Everyone, Yesterday, a tinter and clear bra expert tried for 6 hours to get ClearPlex to conform to my 458's windshield. The wipers were removed and the surface ultra clean. The problem is with the final application; getting the fingers out from the top center. Does anyone know any tricks here or anyone in the Chicago area that can do this? They tried 3 times and their knowledge of application seems expert level. They've worked on LaFerrari's, P1's and they claim thousands of exotics. I believe them as they were very professional and had a lot of good photos of the jobs they had done. So, what about ClearPlex...how can I get this on my windshield?
I'd say that this has to be an anomaly. I just had mine done Wednesday and, apart from a few small bubbles that have since disappeared, the Clearplex went on with no issues at all. And surely there are hundreds of 458s out there with Clearplex. Makes you wonder if there may have been a quality issue with that particular piece. I'd have them try another piece.
I suggest you save your money and just go enjoy the car. You don't need ClearPlex. Just appreciate the view out of optically clear glass not altered by a sheet of plastic material. Whatever you decide, have fun and don't worry about these things.
Save your money? He just spent a couple hundred thousand $ on a car. Clearplex is only about $400 installed and protects a $5000 windshield. Plus if you are like me and hate little pits and chips in the glass from high speed driving that reflect light it is a must. In my opinion, it's the best protection you can add aside from a front bumper wrap.
It's all fine. I don't care. Have fun and enjoy the cars! I'll let y'all know if my windshield breaks. I'm not worried about it.
no issues with my Speciale with the exception of having a seem at the bottom under the wipers because the sheet wasn't big enough. couldn't see it and it didn't mater to me. I had it installed for a specific reason and peeled it off afterwards.
If anyone knows anyone in the Midwest that installs ClearPlex, let me know. I just learned there is an expert installer in Atlanta - Josh who does all the Ferraris. [email protected] He is ClearPlex certified and offers a 18 month/18,000mile warranty on the product and a $1,500 windshield replacement guarantee should the film not protect the windshield if a rock of something hits it. I gotta find someone around Chicago that does this. Seems like a great business opportunity!
Im surprised I read so many users have this done. I clear bra my cars always, almost every panel. But windscreen protection, never thought about it. Mainly because every car I have insured included a free windscreen replacement once a year and with 3 exotics cars and 12 years of ownership from the first one, I've replace two screens from about 20 possible free ones. Costing me not a cent. Are you sure its not included in your insurance a free windscreen replacement once a year?
I highly doubt my Insurence would include this type of policy. Windshield replacement is pricey on a 458/488.
Check with them. If you have full glass coverage and it's done through the dealer, they will pay. In fact I don't think safelite can do it...no aftermarket windshields for Ferrari. No distorting windshield film for me. If I tracked a lot maybe.
I started doing this to all my cars about 2 years ago. I love it. As I always hated how the window would get little chips and pits that reflect light. For $400 I get essentially a new windshield whenever I want by peeling and applying new film. Plus it's great protection on the highway and track from major damage.
I was told not to go through insurance since it shows up on carfax; also the dealer advised against clear plex for some reason.
I absolutely agree on that. Never ever I would stick something on the front window ... everybody knows it degrades the visability ! New windows is insurance matter so what ...!
ClearPlex and BrayGroup both have good reviews on visibility. Bray group's product is used on professional race cars. Home - Bray Group International Im all for new technology.
I had the same issue, it was solved by trimming off about 1 inch of the film from the edge of the roof. It will leave about an inch of windshield unprotected but it is still safer than not having the film.. mine was done by Jason at fadetoblacktinting in michigan.
Some people have more money than sense.....get a cracked windshield and not only are you out $5000-7000 but 6 weeks without your car while they ship a new windshield from Italy. BTW Clearplex if installed correctly is totally clear. Can't even see it.
