Anyone here experienced with Clearplex Windshield Protection Film?

I searched and found a sponsor here that had a similar product at one time, but I believe they stopped selling it due to:
    a) inconsistency in clarity of adhesives
    b) film can get scratched from wiper usage
    c) film only comes with a 1 yr warranty

I don't know if Cleaplex suffers from any of these, but would be interested in any firsthand experience.

    Thanks,

    Mark

I went to an FOC tech session last week on a similar product called Proline Windshield Skin (www.prolinestyling.com). The installer here in San Diego said it would typically need to be replaced every couple of years -- possibly longer on seldom-driven cars like most Ferraris. It is new - no long-term data, just claims about optical clarity. It is supposed to offer enhanced protection against rock impacts, and also the usual smaller chips all windscreens pick up from normal use.

FWIW, I'd feel better about trying this than the paint film, because it can be easily removed from glass with no adverse effects. Price was $600 installed, IIRC. If you have a 360/F430 where a new windscreen runs over $3500, it's not a bad bet.

The other thing they pointed out was that it filters 99% of UV rays - which could be hugely helpful for keeping leather dashes from shrinking and cracking.

Ordinary glass will stop UVB and UVC wavelengths. And I doubt the UV is as damaging as the heat from the sunlight, which dries out the leather. Treating the leather regularly to prevent drying is the key to preserving your leather dash.

BTW, most insurance policies have anywhere from zero to $500 deductible for windshield replacement. My current policy through Grundy is zero deductible for windshield coverage.
