I just read one of Sheehan's articles, and every time he mentions a 246, he says how the heater, defroster and a/c are a joke. I know saying this pretty much guarantees a failure soon, but the a/c in my car blew cold and stronglast summer, the heater can acualy get the cabin too warm, and defrosts the screen just fine. Maybe '74 US cars CC worked better than previous/Euro cars?? Every part in the system is original, and the system was recharged a year or so back.

Is it just me, or does anyone else take umbrage at all these knocks? Maybe it's not as powerful as the climate control in a Coupe de Ville, but so what?

My (Ahem, Uro's) '72 US car had good heat, decent defrost and a workable but not superior A/C. We upgraded the compressor on that, and it is better, but still not anything like a modern car. It is, however, as good as any early 70's car that I owned in the past.

So, yes, I do take some umbrage when folks say that type of stuff, especially when they compare it to a modern car.

The same folks would be happy to own one, however, if the "price was right."

Now that I think on it, the early 70's Oldsmobile my grandmother drove had killer A/C, you could freeze in there, even in mid July. Of course that car had a 400 CID motor, so it could push a pretty big compressor I guess. Thing had vacuum brakes that all you had to do was breathe on them and the car stopped.

not speaking for the heater, but when it comes to the a/c here in texas, even the best factory a/c is not much better than someone blowing across a nice cold glass of iced tea. sure there is some air movement and a note of cool, but not much of anything that will make it cold in the cabin

I know things are bigger in Texas, but my Westchester summers are 92-98 degrees, 90-100% humidity, sun blazing down. Hard to get much worse than that, except when you add black car, black(&red) interior. I put the top on, crank the a/c, put a towel on the seat so I don't get red zebra stripes from dye seep, and I am good to go. Not freezing, but it definitely cuts 15-20 nicks off both of those numbers and makes it comfy enough for a long ride. Engine didn't even get hot in traffic last year!

    Maybe freak luck?
