So, I always thought Ferraris were difficult to clock because they recorded their mileage on multiple computers...

However, I'm looking at a Ferrari FF at the moment from a dealer on the west coast. It bothers me because they have a couple of Ferraris that seem to have only done 100 miles or so in the past 3 years.

So I googled the VIN and found the original auction for the car from a year ago and indeed the mileage from the auction is a couple of hundred miles more than the current mileage it's showing.

So, perhaps they're easier to clock than I thought. Scary prospect...

Wow. I own one. That’s shocking. Isn’t this extremely illegal?

Sometimes mileage gets rounded up or down in adverts. The only way to be sure is if you have a photo of the odometer display.

The best way to check mileage is the Ferrari service records but the older FFs are outside the 7 years free servicing. However, if they’ve seen a Ferrari dealer for work that an independent couldn’t do then there would also be a record.

Yes, rolling back an odometer is fraud. Also, digital odometers are notoriously easy to alter with the right software.

Like others have said, would be a good idea to try and find other records of the mileage. Generally mileage shown at an auction is going to be close, but not precise.

For those curious, here is the US federal statue: https://www.justice.gov/civil/case/federal-odometer-tampering-statutes

I think Ferrari should come clean about this and make an official statement about whether this is indeed possible. The was a lot of controversy, and threads, a couple of years ago about a Florida dealership resetting the mileage on a LaF for one of their elite customers prior to sale.

I don't think Ferrari will be making any statements on what software can alter the odometer. I would bet any of the dealerships' programming tools could alter the odometer. Just think about if they have to replace ECMs/BCMs, somehow they have to program in the mileage for the odometer.
