Close call

Well last week I was going to a golf outing and when I pulled the release for the engine/trunk lid the passenger side latch wouldn't release. This was a near disaster due to my clubs being in the back. Never had this problem before but there is always the 1st time. Finally had a friend try to lift the lid as I pulled the lever. Luckily it worked so I was able to get at my clubs. So after getting home , I only set the lid down and did not slam it , I started the investigation. It seems that the cable is starting to fray and stretched slightly. So I just removed the "J" hook temporarily and am looking for the cable. The question is where do you get this cable ? Then the next question is after installing it how to you compensate for the cable stretching . Thanks
