Along with other mudderators, I can confirm the Quantity of Threads was reported. It really is far, far more effective to have a gargantuan thread, as it removes psychological and geographical barriers and constraints. *Any Singapore Owners* is living proof of that, as are several Aussie threads. It should not be interpreted as anything but everyone's best interests, particularly yours. via rubber ducky
You're assuming you know what's best for our car community versus your forum. I get your desire to look out for the best interest of your forum. I am looking out for the best interest of our success in our community. We know what works which is why we're growing. I completely understand your desire to balance the interests of your forum, but that doesn't fit with our posting options unless we hear otherwise from our participants. Our car community has overwhelmingly requested separate threads which was why we did it in the first place. Originally we were a single thread. We didn't like the initial work of a separate thread until we saw how successful it became relative to single threads and how it actually saved us Q&A time. Please understand for us to be successful, we can't be distracted by what others think who don't participate in our car community as it doesn't translate into a successful outcome for us. We're hyper-focused on what works for our event and while we're always open to suggestion, we don't fix what isn't broken. Time will tell. If you're so correct in your approach, someone will start their own thread and the Northwest section will grow. If you're wrong, then traffic will continue to slide even with the one thread approach.
you have made that clear, you don't need FerrariChat or our users, since your event was the only reason for you participation want me to remove your account? our users are still welcome to post about the event if they want, that doesn't require any time on your part.
This brew ha reminds me of childhood games when the kid owning the ball got mad and took his ball and went home, game over. Last time I checked we were adults and all enjoyed the fun and enjoyment of automobiles we should act as adults. I would have never found out about the RTC event had it not been for the Ferrarichat postings. Candy and I enjoy the Saturday morning activities, its not far from our home and we have brought our Ferrari's and other collector cars there on a number of occations. Will I continue to do so,I may, as long as I have someone remind me(I'm old and forget a lot). I was able to go to the northwest page of Ferrarichat and catch up on all local events be it the XXX Italian show, Ferrari club tours and drives, and yes RTC events. I'm guessing RTC events will still survive this squabble between former friends. RTC should keep in mind a very basic premiss of success is exposure, exposure, exposure. Thank you Howard. Independently of this discussion, I reopened the E@RTC thread because a new user chose to post a video from the 8/4 event. The most appropriate place for that would certainly be the E@RTC thread, which is where I put it, which meant reopening the thread. Back to this thread, it is not our intention to force RTC off the board. TommyJames was not banned, no supporter of E@RTC was ever banned, no posts were ever deleted, all voices were listened to. The only difference is that the content is on a single thread vs multiple threads. Objectively, that change does not increase the effort it takes for the event organizers to post a notice of their next event. It may have changed their perception of the return they get for the effort invested in posting that notice; but that's their analysis and decision to make. On the flip side, Fchat users who are interested in E@RTC should simply subscribe to the merged thread (assuming it gets updated). Having subscribed, a user can get to the most recent updates quickly via the "Subscribed Threads" button and "New Posts" button that I've already described. There is a tradeoff between a "Subscribed Threads" button push vs a "Northwest Region" button push, but it is minor as, for Fchat users that are interested in E@RTC, it is either the same or perhaps one extra button push. For non-Fchat users, that relied on a scan for new headlines to get their "event is on/not on" update, it might not work. You'll have to search for the thread (which you had to do anyway since the forum software doesn't know you and can't remember your threads), then push the "Last Post" button and scan backwards. Maybe that's 15-30 seconds. It should be noted that readers who relied on this were effectively counting on there being little activity in the Northwest region to make the latest E@RTC thread easy to find. An active forum could quickly bury a new thread and the notice would be overlooked; which wouldn't happen if a thread was on a user's subscribed threads list. Once the "Last Post" button was used, most weekly notice threads were 0-10 posts, which means the last page will usually contain the latest updates; in the worst case it might be 2 pages if updates cross a page boundary. This effectively takes you to the latest info with two to three button pushes. If you're hitting the thread and starting from page 1, then you're simply doing it the hardest way possible. This would one button push easier if a reader at least registered as a user, so that the forum software could keep track of their preferences, subscribed threads and last post read on each thread. Readers who choose not to register and start from the beginning of the thread are choosing not to take advantage of basic efficiencies the forum software offers and so arguments of difficulties are not very convincing. The reality is that it can be either slightly longer OR slightly shorter, depending on which process you choose to use.
If a person acts like a child, then child psychology is what he needs. It would not have mattered one iota if this non-subscribed User had been given 2 years notice that 1 thread would suffice. "But I said no, I don't wanna. tthhhhhhhttttt." Image Unavailable, Please Login
it is factual. TommyJames said FerrariChat is not needed. TommyJames only posted for this event or when putting down someone elses event (OK, this last part is childish ). are you baiting?
OK, as the dumbass who started this thread I'd like to request that it be closed. It has pretty much devolved from a debate to name calling and aqusations. Enough already!! Please close this thread.
