As a new 488 GTB owner, I hear differing opinions on how to properly close the trunk and engine cover. Can someone clarify the proper way? Thank you.

Hundreds of thousands of troops defend humanity while sacrificing time away from their families, and you can't figure out how to open/close your trunk and engine cover?

    :)

It's very simple, you do not slam anything closed/shut. For the front hood, you lower it down to where it rests on the latch, then take both hands (placing them on each of the ridges on the hood indicated by the blue circles) then push down until it latches into place.

For the engine bay glass, again you don't slam it down, just lower it until it rests on the latch and then push down with both hands on the indicated blue circles until it latches into place.

If FOR ANY REASON you fail to follow the aforementioned instructions, while locking the vehicle with the remote your 488 will flash the turn signal and beep very quickly indicating something has not been properly secured.

I hope you can excuse my slight enthusiasm, but welcome to the world of 488 ownership!

For verification, please see the review at the 6:57 marker: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUg_HQzvHGU as "Harry" uses one hand, but let's start with the easy route of using both hands first.

Thanks for your response. You illustrate my point. There's different opinions. My dealer told me to lower the trunk then press down on the center, because the sheet metal is reinforced by the latch hardware underneath. He then explained to do essentially the same for the engine cover, or lightly, not firmly, drop it from about a 10" or so. I just want to be certain I'm doing the best thing to protect my car.

Watch the review, every reviewer that test drove the vehicle had to undergo extensive information "sessions" prior to taking the 488 for a test drive, Harry, Chris Harris, etc.

Harry refers right to it with regards to the trunk in his review I linked to in my earlier post. With regards to the rear glass engine cover, given the material you have a lot more flexibility, there really isn't much of a "wrong" way to go about it, other than slamming it shut.

Also, while we're at it, I am sure you will be washing the car on your own from time to time... just make sure NOT to use any wheel cleaners and be very careful when applying tire shine to your 488.

You have Carbon Ceramic brakes equipped and using any harsh chemicals like wheel cleaners is a big no no for them. Simply use regular car wash soap, or just water and a brush. Give the nature of ceramic brakes, you will not end up with any major brake dust during normal driving.

When applying tire shine, be careful not to use any silicone based products as they also interfere with the brakes. 303 protectant has been thrown around a lot with that domain.

Just trying to guide you through the guidance I was given just in case despite it being off topic.
