    Hi,
I have removed the carpet liner from the trunk of my F355 to prepare the install of my lift kit.
I wanted to drive the car without the liner to ease the work at the workshop, but it seems impossible to close the bonnet without the liner and itse metal inserts.

Is there a trick to close the bonnet and drive the car without the carpet liner?
    Thank you.

The liner has nothing to do with being able to close the bonnet. The only thing you need to re-attach is the rubber seal around the perimeter so the bonnet has something to sit against.

    I did that.
The issue I think, is the metal inserts on the carpet near the latches.
Without them I guess there isn't counterpressure to lock the bonnet.

Correct you need that rubber gasket otherwise when you release the bonnet the latch open and closes and the bonnet stays put. The gasket applies compression enabling the pop. Wiothout it you have to pop the bonnet and have someone lift the corner.

As I understand, “radback” is unable to close the bonnet. On my 348 (similar bonnet to the 355 ?), I could close and open the bonnet just as easily with or without the liner. On the 348, the metal inserts on the liners that surround the latch mechanisms have nothing to do with latching or unlatching.

    OK, I've got the explanation.

As I just removed the liner, and there are some metal parts on it (red arrows), at first I didn't think of any other explanation:

Then I recalled that I did something else yesterday!
While checking the fuse box on passenger footwell, I pulled the rescue lever just to see if it was working, but while the bonnet was already open.
I guess that's what messed with the latches.

After few tries locking the latches with my finger without succes, they're now back to normal and I can close again the bonnet without the carper liner.

Sorry for this, but might be usefull one day for someone else in same situation ;)
