I am looking for information on the optional cloth seat inserts for my 1971 246GT. Mine need to be replaced and I want to use the proper material and color. The ones in my car were replaced a long time ago, and I don't think that they are correct. I would appreciate any help that I can get.

I have the book DINO the little Ferrari by Doug Nye, and on page 276 he states that the Dino came with three options Leather for $275, Cloth inserts for $65 and the standard all vinyl. I have recieved a couple of responces from members in the North West Region FCA. that had cars with red terrycloth inserts. they also said that the dye came off on their clothes. One of them bought new material from italy and told me to go buy a couple of bright red beach towels it is the same material. I don't know if I want to put beach towels in my car for seats or not. Thanks for the Reply Gary

Reoriginals is a very good suggestion..I was by there the other day.

    Matt knows the stuff.........

There's the legend of cutting up the Factory mechanic's suits to trim a '64 GTO, so the beach towel story doesn't sound far fetched to me.......

Didn't look there, honestly. Guess it was possible. Just never seen one that way.

I'll ask my guys at Algar, too.

I went through the process for Tom Shaughnessy on his Dino *00816*. I also have one for my Dino*00474*. This is the only page you receive from Ferrari along with some misc. emails. The first thing you have to do is register to have access to the official Ferrari Owner's Site, www.owners.ferrari.com, it takes about 48 hours to get confirmation that you are a member. It costs nothing. Once you have access you click on "Heritage Certificate". They will ask you your chassis number, engine type(135cs), engine number, gearbox type (607), and gearbox number. They will usually ask (email)you for more info like your engine number again which should also include the internal number that is sometimes stamped below the normal engine number.
    Example:
    135c 000
    000 5200
    123(internal number)
If you need to know where to find these numbers I'm more than happy to help. Just be prepared, you may find out your numbers don't match. They will only issue you the Heritage Certificate if all your numbers match their records. Its a gamble. Not for the faint hearted. I've been logging as many numbers as I can. When I looked at the numbers on *00816* I knew they matched by their sequence to*00474*.
    Good Luck, Freeman
