Curious as to how to remove the headlight to clean the inside and remove the cloudy film. Looked at a thread about replacing the bulbs and this gave some tips. For instance, once the headlight surround is removed, will the whole unit slide forward for both bulb replacement and removal of the headlight itself? Also, how does one put the lights up without the lights being on? Is this possible? Is what I'm describing doable for the average aerospace engineer with average tools/mechanical ability - or should I just ignore the film. Don't drive much at night anyway. Thanks for your tips/help.
I'm a newbie 348 owner so I don't know if there's a way to pop the headlights up without them being on. I just had to check my lamps and found I had to leave the lights on to service them...made me a little nervous putting my hand in there knowing that if it decides to close it's gonna hurt real bad if not chop my hand off...but it went OK. I put a trickle charger on my battery when I did mine so the battery wouldn't run down. Didn't have any problems... My lenses are kinda cloudy too...they make products that supposedly clean them up and make them clear again but I've never seen them work very good on glass. I am sure someone who knows more about glass could tell us how to make them look better...? Anybody know something that works...? MarkG
haven't done this.... but try turning on the headlights so that they pop up, then turn the car off and switch the lights off afterwards.
I had posted pic's and a how to do about six month's ago called cleaning head light assy 348. look up in the search or posts under rallo1.
As described on page L13 of the 355 handbook, there is an emergency headlamp raising device. Disconnect the battery (don't know if this is absolutely essential but if you are going to work on the lamps this is a good move anyway!). Lift hood. You will see a plasic black knurled knob behind the headlamp pod. Turn this knob until the headlamps are fully raised
Thanks for the tip about the manual and page L13 - I'll look. For cleaning - another thread suggested a product called CLR that can be bought at a Home Depot, ect. slosh this around, maybe with a wooden stick and lint free cloth for extra scrubbing, then rinse with distilled water and air dry. My only remaining question is once the painted surround is removed and the bulbs disconnected from the headlight, will the headlight freely slide out??
This is a response from my Ferrari service manager. It is a bit more involved than that. You should be able to access the bulb connectors with the light down although it is not a pleasant process. Then turn the light on and remove the four screws from the front cosmetic ring and you will then see the retaining screws for the lamp assembly themselves then you should be able to remove and clean them It is not unusual to have some moisture build up in these lamps when we have drastic temperature changes like we are now (70-80 during the day and 40-50 in the evening) and the projector lamp is not clear it does have a haze to it. If it is condensation it will generally clear after 15 min of operation. Do not touch the bulb with you fingers as the grease on your hands will cause the bulbs to fail prematurely.
read my thread and it explains everything. You or correct do not touch the bulb or it will fail and you will have to replace. It you do touch the bulb you can wipe it down with alcohol and let it dry.
It's a bit of a pain, but. Turn headlights on, disconnect battery by the disconnect switch under the bonnet take all 4 screws out the covers. There are 3 release snaps holding the lamp in place. Small screwdriver will do the trick. Put plenty of masking tape over the front of the top of the hood section as the lamps are a really tight fit and you will damage the paint work if it's not protected when you slide the lamps out. Tilt the lamp at the top towards you and get a mate to pull upwards on the headlight pod to give an extra few mm of access. Once free, you should be able to disconnect the bulbs and remove the lamp lens. best of luck R
If your having problems with foggy headlights, you should check out Headlight Restoration Service ( www.hrslights.com ). They spcialize in plastic headlights. I hope this helps.
Hey, thanks for this! I just installed HIR bulbs, and this info was extremely helpful. As you know the flippin' manual was worthless for performing this procedure. It was not terribly difficult, but not knowing to lift on the lid to squeeze the headlight out would have frustrated me for hours! But seriously, could Ferrari have made changing a light bulb any more complicated? Ferrari needs to hire a few Honda engineers and think where they could go!
BTW Best way to leave the ights up is to switch them off then remove the 2 retractor fuses from the frunk fuse box then switch your lights back off and your lights stay up Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I just swilled some panel wipe around then using some rag wrapped around a stick "mopped" the inside and repeated until happy. The front/outside was done with one of these screen scratch repair kits you attach to a drill.
