I've had the itch lately to get back into golf after a 15 year hiatus. I played a lot in college and but was never really able to consistently shoot in the 80's. Maybe it was the beer! ;)

Anyways, I've been looking to get back into it and need some clubs. Ay recommendations as to where to start? Any beginner friendly places where I can get some instruction and swing a few?

I posed a similar question a few months back.

Go up to your local Golf Smith or whatever (I'd recommend going to different ones to get varying info) and talked to them.

As for lessons, go up to one of the courses you like and ask about getting lessons from one of the pro's there.

    Will do!

I stopped by Dick's Sporting Goods yesterday and hit a few balls. Honestly it's been so long since I've played everything felt light years beyond what I was used to. The only driver I could try was a Taylormade 07 Burner. My club head speed was 95 - 100 so they suggested stiff shaft clubs. I forgot all the other specs other than my ball spin was @4,500.

I've been looking online at the GD Hot List and want to see if the Adams Idea A7 feel any good. My guess is that at my level they are are going to feel close. i don't want a cheap set that I'll quickly outgrow but I don't want to spend a grand if it's not worth it.

About a year ago I was all set to buy the latest Taylormade driver, to the tune of about $350 IIRC, but a friend of mine worked at Dick's as their golf dep't manager, he took me aside and said 'I know you, you WANT to golf more, but you won't, so save the money'.

He then directed me to a Maxfli driver for $80, and it hits perfectly fine for me, I really like it. And in the last year: he was right: I have golfed precisely twice. I USED to golf three times A WEEK.

The better technology is definately worth the price. Spend the money and then go out there and have fun.
