.....and my roof panel on my 355 GTS goes clunk just where the latches are. It's on tight...have new anti vibration rubbers on the latches....there's really no squeaking when driving...the clunk only happens when going over a pothole or crossing for example railway tracks or a rut or crack in the road.... I cannot figure out what exactky is clunking....if I knew I could perhaps put some foam or felt there to dampen the clunk. Any ideas anyone?
Yeah, don't hit the pothole If the latch screws are tight, I have no idea. But joking aside, I can't recall ever hitting a pot hole with mine.
Just a question but how do you know for sure it's coming from the roof. Ie if the roof is off no clunk then???
Correct No roof...no clunk I'm sure it's from the latch on both sides....but the latches are in great order and seal the roof down real tight. I put 2mm of the gaskets between the latch and the roof...this loosens the joint between roof and latching points but this made it really noisey and squeeky. It was way too loose
Is it possible your getting a front to back clunk versus a side to side clunk.. Just trying to kinda think outside the box. I don't own a gts but maybe you have stopped one direction of free play however the other direction was not checked?? Maybe you could put small markes on the roof and car frame where everything lines up and have a passenger watch while you hit the bump and try to visually see where it moves by watching the marks???
You can buy or make shims to go under your latches. See number 31 Ferrari F355 M5.2 (1996+) Parts : Table 105 - ROOF - OUTER TRIMS
Dave Dont mean to be rude but please read what i write. Your suggestions were nullified before you suggested them My throttle bell crank is perfect...from another thread and.... I already fitted shims Just trying to save u the time
I would have expected a car from this era to have the odd clunk or two in a GTS roof. But judging from the comments everyone else is making, I guess this is not so? Surprising.
I did read but I was not sure if you were aware of the factory shims. And, sure, appreciate the time saver as I won't try and help you anymore
