I recently replaced my clutch cable and completed the adjustment described below. My car is a 1985 308 QV, but the mechanism matches the 328 diagram below. I am a bit confused at this point because based upon my understanding of how the clutch adjustment works I can't explain how it could have worked the way I think it was working before the cable broke but at the same time it seems wrong to me now even though I can't imagine how it could be any different.

Since the 328 style mechanism has no free play I guess you would expect the clutch to release near the beginning of the pedal travel because you are immediately acting on the clutch. That is in fact how my clutch is currently working but my recollection is that previously the clutch was releasing after the pedal had traveled considerably farther.

    Am I missing something?
