Where is it least expensive to buy a clutch assembly for a 1992 348? I was told this is a borg-warner part. Does anyone know what other cars use this particular model? Thanks.

Does your car have a single disc or double disc unit? Some (many?) of the early 348's have been upgraded from the double-disc assembly to the single disc clutch. Until you have the clutch pumpkin open, I'm not sure you'll even know which bits to start pricing.

Can I find this info from the VIN number of the car?

If it's the stock clutch it will be a dual disc unit (single disc was introduced in '93). If you are simply looking for the least expensive method, remove the clutch pack and take it to a specialist and see if they can re-surface the discs and re-grind the plates.

If you need to replace the unit give Daniel at Ricambi America a call, they are less expensive than most parts suppliers. And call Daniel quick before he turns his clutch packs into end tables!

Has anyone tried to upgrade to a performance clutch? Is it any different from the stock oem clutch? How about an aluminum flywheel upgrade? Does this combination of performance clutch with aluminum flywheel make a difference? Would the reliability of the car be affected? someone from FC posted the website of Clutchexpress. Are they any good?

The stock 348 clutch if adequet is you dont do much track work. :):)

I got a 'race clutch' made for my 348. I dont know why now, but I did. :D:D

Well, I *do* know why, at the time a genuine Ferrari twin plate clutch was going to cost me AU $4600 from my nearest Ferrari dealer. I had a twin plate race clutch made locally in Australia by an Fchatter for AU $2200. :D:D

And its good for 800HP from memory and a lot more torque than the stocko clutch. :):)

Ive had the clutch in there for 4 yrs now and around 6000km with no issues. :):)

Can post some pics of mine if you like and tell you where I had it made. :):)

Yes, pls post some pics and tell me where to get them. Are they much stiffer? Too stiff for street use? How about installing kevlar facings? Have you had any experience or have heard stories about this? Thanks.

Just keep in mind that the clutch isn't the weak point in the 348 driveline. If you want better "hookup" you could break something else expensive.

Here are some pics of my new clutch. :):)

I cant tell the difference from the stock clutch mate. It feels normal and drives the same. :):)

The pedal feels exactly the same too. ;);)

An ex-Fchatter made this clutch for me. I will PM you his details so you can get in contact with him. :):)

I have read a bit about kevlar clutch linings. They are a good thing, last forever too. Some Fchatters here over the years have fitted kevlar clutches with no issues to their Ferraris. :):)

I also had a thread on how to fit it etc..etc..but the thread is now missing. :(:(
