Clutch bellhousing question

    After replacing a leaky clutch slave seal and changing the transmission oil on my 91 TR, I had a few questions:

    How much oil should be added to the gear cluster housing on the back 0f the bellhousing? The manual suggests 200-300 grams, should that be read as ml?

    Does the oil in the gear cluster circulate with the gearbox oil?

    While the drain plug magnets on the transmission case were free of any debris, the magnet on the drain plug on the bellhousing gear cluster had a fair bit of extremely fine black sediment. Could that be caused by a low oil level in the bellhousing gear case?

    you can say so, yes, but better to fill in more oil, this, what is too much will automatically go into the gearbox.

    no, not really circulating, there is no pump putting oil into the part. but the lower gear always is going in the oil and put/spin this then all over in the housing to the top. there are for the bearings 2 "oil guides" and then the oil drops dwon again. on my competiton the oil pump has been enlarged and on the top of the housing the oil goes into this area, goes down and this, what is too much goes into the gearbox.

    when you once fill up right then you never will have low oil level there, except it is draining somewhere

    I took the gear cluster housing off last night and found the cause of my issue.

    The fine black magnetic residue on the magnet was from the splined shaft and nut from the top gear, which delivers power from the clutch output shaft. Despite the nut still being in place as installed at the factory, 32 years and 61,000 km later the nut at the end of the shaft was working its way slightly loose. By allowing the gear to move ever so slightly on the shaft, back and forth against the nut, some steel had worn away.

    Fortunately the spline damage was barely visible; disassembly, cleaning, spline grease and tightening to 200 Nm should hopefully fix it.

    such a problem I never had before.
    once the nut with the left-head thread and the gearboxhsaft where the oil pump housing is had been loosen.

    you tightened with 200 Nm and hopefully cleaned all before and put some loctite on? used a new nut or at least used an other part of the nut to fix this nut?

    The flange around the nut is peened (there are two grooves machined into the shaft) so that it cannot loosen.

    No loctite was called for in the manual, so I just cleaned it and reassembled it.
