Just replacing my clutch and also need to do the clutch release bearing.

I have the old style and need to get the newer style to get a bearing.

So I need to replace the clutch flange and want to confirm if Ferrari part no. 168589 will fit? A post I’ve seen implies it needs modification to block some oil ways but I c as my find anything difinitive.

I have a line on a used part so would save a lot over a hill one.

    many thanks.

Probably if you search for the flange on one of the sites like eurospares it will say flange xyz superceeded by #1234567. There are no old flanges you can buy from the reputable places. As far as the holes to plug there is aluminum threaded rod that comes with the flange if the areas have not been blocked out. If not you just run the threaded rod in there, peen them over, and it plugs up the extra holes. It is totally obvious when you see it.

    Thank you.

Lots of referencing of Ferrarparts.co.uk and hills engineering.

The hill part is stated to replace part number 168589, but that’s not listed on ferrariparts for the 348; only the 355.

Good to know re the threaded rods.

For the price of used parts; think I’ll give the used oem part a try!!! What could go wrong!!!!!

Well the flange shaft has to be perfect. Scratches will eat the T/O bearing seal and you will get leaks.

Personally I would never use a used one, its like using a used cam pulley. out of true, micro cracks you can't see, seal grooved damaged from improper seal install, the list of long of issues. To ensure I do it once I would spend the extra 30%. Were not talking thousands here. But everyone has their own method, Just bringing it up is all. Best of luck with your path!

I thought the Hill was two parts, inrecall something like that when I was investigatonf my TO bearing (which luckily only turned out to be just a chewed up seal).

I still suggest you contact Daniel at Ricambi.

Thank you yes; I’m familiar with both sites and have been using them as reference. Clutch will be from ferrariparts.co.uk.

2nd hand oem is a saving of about 300% (£300) over a new hills parts.

They should never wear out or sustain any damage so as long as said above, the shaft is perfect I see no issue.

Makes sense but unless you can touch and see the part first hand before you buy it it's kind of tough is all. If you buy used make sure they have a return policy.

I have a 1990 348ts and recently replaced the bearing on the clutch "slave" cylinder which I purchases from Superformance. Are they not still available ?

He's looking for a used one which is cheaper and not a bad strategy. :)

There are two different size thrust bearings. Both bearings are available, but you would have to get them out if the carrier; not easy.

Most people buy a new carrier with the bearing already in it. Only the larger size is available. The flange has to match; so if you have the smaller size you need as new bigger flange (what I’m discussing). They are readily available from Hill but at circa £400 or some nut price from ferrari. I have the possibility to get a second hand Ferrari one for not much. Question I’m trying to bottom out is if it will fit; as part numbers vary between aftermarket and oem.

second hand is a risk if it’s got any damage; but it looks ok do I think worth the punt!!!

    Sorted in terms of parts;

Found a new OEM flange at a reasonable discount, and ordered a hill bearing.

Hopefully have it back on the road next week.
